I guess you may as well use the older one, it will have a better flavour. :)

I merged the two together, retaining the older one.

    1) What formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
-I've always been a great fan of the line "And hasn't his grandfather warned him to keep away from women as neurotic as a shaved monkey?" from Going Postal. I'm a fan of Adora Belle Dearheart in general.

    2) Are you male or female?
    -Assuredly female.

    3) What age category and geographic location do you fall into?
    -I'm a 27 year old Canadian.

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?

-I've watched Hogfather and Colour of Magic. I liked them well enough. I believe that future productions will only improve as the profitability of Discworld movies becomes apparent. Oh, and I dearly loved the animated version of Wyrd Sisters.

    5) Who or how were you turned on to Discworld/Pratchett?
-My husband (who at the time was in fact my boyfriend of a few weeks) took advantage of my rabid interest in finding new reading material and got me hooked. I believe the first Discworld book I ever read was Mort.

    6) What's your personal quote of the day?
    - "The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots."

    • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
My husband despairs of my thought processes, particularly my synesthesia and says I am "Wired wrong"!
    • 2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    Female (last time I checked)
    • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
    40 and in Dorset
    • 4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?
(note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Really enjoted most of Hogfather - not so taken with Colour of Magic. Quite enjoyed the animated version of Wyrd Sisters.
    • 5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I'm an avid reader and needed something new to read on a very dull commute in Hertfordshire - soon found I had read the exisitng canon (in about 1998) and started pacing up and down awaiting the next one!
    • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?
"It's a misery wrapped in an enema"
  9. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

Hi, Wiredwrong! Welcome to the boards. :) I like your quote.
  10. DEATHOFRATS New Member

Haven't done this yet, but late is better than never.

    1. Hmm...DoR is a great character, which is amazing since the only thing we hear him say is SQUEAK. I admire him greatly.

    2. You know...the one which isn't female...male, that's it.

    3. I'm 14. I live , as my user account says, in Bath.

    4. Oddly enough, no.

    5. I think it was my best friend...my first book was, if I remember correctly, Going Postal (Yeah, start at the end).

    6. All I can think of is my literary genius friend Ben, who, when writing a poem about a boy who disappeared on the London Eye, came up with a blinder:

    "Salim got on the Eye
    While clutching a pie
Salim did not get off the Eye
    And neither did his pie."
  11. Kobble New Member

    1) My Screen Name

Ok, it's a bit random. It's the nickname a friend calls me because she is crazy. As far as I can ascertain her logic is: My initials are KO'B. Kob. Ok, fair enough. Then, her favourite poem ever is called 'The Pobble Who Had No Toes' (sophistocated, isn't it? Fun though ^_^). So then, she decided that Kob and Pobble sound funny together. Therefore: Kobble. Why she decided that this was a good name I have no idea, but I thought it was rather hilarious. So Kobble I am.

    2) Male or Female

    Female.

    3) What age catagory and geographic location do I fall into?

I'm 17 and am Irish through and through. Still live there, and am very wet as a result.

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?

Yes, I have. The Sky ones. Hogfather and CoM. I quite liked the Hogfather out of relief that they didn't mess it up any worse. Because we all know they could've. But as films, I think they also could have been a lot better. Not my favourites. Didn't hate them as much as the HP movies. And didn't like them anywhere near as much as the Lord of the Rings films.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

My uncle gave Wyrd Sisters to my brother for Christmas like 5 years ago. I read it too and thought it was funny but nothing special (in retrospect, I'm horrified by this). But then I needed to read a book and write a review for school and I got the Amazing Maurice. I loved the Death of Rats. But still, not my favourite ever book. But then I found Night Watch. Wow. THAT started the obsession period. It amazed me and made me laugh so hard... Later I went back to reread WS and liked it better. Granny is amazing ^_^

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"Scientific progress goes boink?" - Calvin and Hobbes

Sorry that some of these answers were so long, my bad. If you didn't read it all that's ok. ^_^

    Kobble
  12. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

    Welcome... again

Y'see, avatars aren't that hard to do. I've got to ask - how did your avatar originate?

I did say we were a curious lot.
  13. Kobble New Member

Yeah, thanks again for that. I really am hopeless ^_^ It did seem obvious once pointed out.
My avatar... was a originally a doodle I did in the back of my copy books at school in the subjects I am worst at (Maths, Irish, Geography, etc.) and I loved him. His name is Charlie. He's a vampire, an incompetent one. Then I had to write a play script for English and I couldn't think of anything. So I did it about Charlie here. I thought I might do an online comic about him at some point. Either way, I did a a few pictures of him (unlike the doodles these weren't in pen and smudgy) on my graphics tablet thing. One is a happy one (my avatar) and another a depressed one.
I don't know why he's called Charlie. It just popped into my head. He calls himself Lord Charles Ichorovich (he made that name up) but he's Charlie

I'm sorry that was so long, but you did ask! ^_^

    Reply to questions

    1. Ni-Ne is a nickname I was given by a very dear friend who said I reminded him of a rare bird called a Ni-Ne from the Amazon rain forest. J is the first letter of my name so it is a mixture of the two. Oh and you can pronounce my name J9.

I seem to have forgot to say I am female whoops......

    2. I'm 37 years old and live in Sedgley, West Midlands in the United Kingdom.

    3. I have seen Hogswatch and The Colour Magic, out of the two I preferred Hogswatch but I think that is because Death and The Death of Rats are two of my favorite characters.

    4. I started Reading Terry Pratchett when my youngest had to spend 21 weeks in Birmingham Childrens Hospital. One of his doctors was a big TP fan and we would dicuss the discworld during morning rounds much to the bafflement of the trainee docs.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have is my favorite quote, because it just about sums up my life.

Long story: I like pink, and like have an original screen name (read: without numbers) at online gaming
    • 2) Male or Female?
      Female
    • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

      24, The Netherlands
    • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Yes, if TP is involved. I liked the Hogfather, or is that cursing?
    • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Read Mort from (now former) drummer on vacation in Spain
    • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"Everything is going to be fine, one way or another. Now please stop coughing."

    Hello everybody!

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
Utterly boring and dull - using my name.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
-- Female, except when I'm rowing and then I'm Awesome Female!

    3) what age category and geographic location do you fall into?
-- Old enough to know better, young enough not to care, USA.

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?
(note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
-- Haven't seen the discworld movies - a project on the list. I'd love to see someone GREAT and with real obsession in their heart for the source material take this on.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
Found it on my own, have since found a few other fans of the discworld. To put things into perspective, this is the only "fanboard" type of thing I've ever even contemplated joining. It does seem such a jolly place, though, that it made me overcome my usual reticence in these matters.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
    none today... maybe another time!

No, Pratchett relies so heavily on the manipulation of language, and that just can't be transferred across into a film.
    • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

First one I read was Mort when I was about 12, but I have no idea how I got hold of it.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

It was the username given to me at university, several years ago. Since it's just a (fairly) random collection of letters, it's a) not targetted by spammers, and b) not already in use on any message boards/websites I've registered on.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

Male. I have absolutely no confusion over this issue.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

Late 20s, in the depths of the UK.

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Yes - seen Hogfather and Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic, and very much looking forward to Going Postal. From the trailers it looks very promising indeed.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I blame my secondary school library. I just happened upon Equal Rites one day - Josh Kirby's artwork made it look so much more appealing than all the surrounding books, so I gave it a go.

    1) My name is Sal and I'm a Quaker. It's a name that I've used before to differentiate me from other Sal's and it seems to work.

    2) Female

    3) I'm over 21 by a good long way but don't think it necessary to reveal by exactly how much. My home town is Plymouth UK, the original, but I am living and working in Aylesbury for the next few months. If there is anything happening in Aylesbury I haven't found it yet. Haven't even been able to locate a duck . . .

    4) I haven't seen any discworld films cos I have a firmly fixed notion that they won't do justice to the books and much as I'd like to be proven wrong I'm not prepared to take the risk of finding out.

    5) A guy I knew kept referring to me as Granny Weatherwax, which meant nothing to me so I finally got him to explain. "She's a lovable battleaxe but is almost invariably proven right" was the explanation I got! Didn't sound promising to me but I thought I'd give it a go.
I started with "The Colour of Magic" as it's my wont to start at the beginning. Once I got as far as Granny Weatherwax I so much wanted to be Nanny Ogg, much as I love Esme. Nanny just has more damn fun!

    6) Sometimes I think the whole world is against me, but deep down I know that is not true. Some of the smaller countries are neutral.

    • 2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    • female. Not confused about that.
    • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
    • Older than dirt. Australia.
    • 4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?
(note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
    • I've seen animations. Haven't seen any others - I'd love to see them but I know they probably won't be as perfect as the images in my head!
    • 5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
    • Read The Colour of Magic, because it sounded interesting, and from then on I was totally lost. Completely under the spell of it all, I just love the language, the ideas, the characters... all of it.
    • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?
    • A good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that has learned how to read.

Hi QuakerSal, I can't remember if we've had a Quaker on here before - we do have Witches, a Minister, a Morris dancer and the odd minor deity though. :)

And hi Gwynne, there's at least one other Aussie around here somewhere.

Nice to meet you both. :)
