Random Doodles thread!

Now, as a spin off of Rinso's Random Photo thread, I hereby create the Random Doodles thread - for everything you created, be it sketch, telephone doodles*, oil paintings you always wanted to show us, digital works as well as pencil sketches on random surfaces... whatever!

A single rule: It should be by you. If you absentmindedly scribble your versions of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa in your math book, that should count - if you just digitally alter someone elses picture a little, it shouldn't. Well, I trust you all know where the line between "own work with reference" and "other person's work in thin disguise" runs. Have fun!

And here are my starting sketches & doodles!

*that's the doodling you do while talking to someone on the phone. I am almost sure everyone does it.

A, short comment: The first - the scary bloke- is a sketch after a photo I took in Vigeland (sp?) park in Oslo. As scary as he is, the pictures I took there turned out to be good material for anatomical sketches.

The second is me training arms and hands. Hard to do, especially if you don't want to cheat with hiding everything under flappy gowns...

The third is a typical boring-lesson-sketch of mine.
  3. OmKranti Yogi Wench

Very cool, Hsing. This will be fun. I need to buy a scanner I think.
  4. Tephlon Active Member

I wish my scanner was working, I do have some Wacom tablet doodles I will post a bit later on.
  5. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

I wish my scanner was working too. :(
  6. Faerie New Member

My scanner does happen to be working but all I can draw are pretty good copies of other people's art. Anything that comes from my own brain comes out not so great.
  7. plaid New Member

my scanner hasn't worked for months, but i do have some old previously scanned doodling to present:

    That flower is beautiful, plaid!

    Here's a "Dragon" I did a few days back.
    OpenCanvas/Wacom/about 1hr.

I didn't like the head when I painted it, but now it looks too short.

I might just give it a longer neck.

Yay! I thought it would be harder to find doodles, as everybody except me owns a digicam, it seems, but scanners are a rare thing. But that hard...

That would explain some of the vocabulary.

Edit to add: Looking at the newest ones, from Plaid and Tephlon, they are beautiful.

These are all sketches for roleplaying campaigns. They were done on the backside of character sheets, and on an empty page in a RPG sourcebook. The first was an NPC, or, for non-gamers, a character in the story (as opposed to the player's characters). The second one was a -shortlived- character I played, and the third was that of a friend.

I was briefly not allowed to bring pencils, pens and other drawing utensils into my D&D sessions. Which was good, because I was/am still learning.

Edit: By the way that first sketch is really nice!
  13. Orrdos God

    Man, those aren't doodles!

Those are too good to be doodles!

Doodles are like, squiggly lines, tornadoes, little cubes! Not, like, drawings!

I'll post some real doodles when I get round to it. June or something.

    2025?

    You're all very good.

I like your study of arms and hands, Hsing, especially the arm with the wristwatch, for some reason.

I like that thing you did in church Plaid. I misread one of the lines as "forever fruit" at first glance, which I thought was an incredibly cute thing to say. :)

I enjoy seeing the "evolution" of your drawing Tephlon, from the line sketch to that coloured and shaded creature. But I like the expression of the dragon's face more in the sketch! Great picture.

Please everyone, continue to upload your doodles, I like them!

    Thanks guys.

According to Doors I'm not supposed to post this one here but here's what I made of that smallish dragon thingy.

The wings kind of suck though.

  18. plaid New Member

that does surpass the term 'doodle' by a lot, but it's still very cool. and i like the wings.
  19. Hsing Moderator

Oh, I extended it a lot! I did mention oil paintings.

So, with KK's request in mind, one more piclet. Then I will stop flooding this thread. Until either someone else has posted a few pics or it drops of page one... :p

Old Red Eyes is back. Only he's done in pencil, so we don't get to see the red.
  20. Hsing Moderator

Oh yes, before I forget it: Those are cool dragons! I've only ever done one. i think it's somewhere in a box right now.

I remember a professional fantasy setting illustrator, who more or less specialized on dragons and by now is doing almost all his work digitally, mentioning in an interview that he has been a subscriber for journals on reptiles ("How to keep your pet viper happy") for years - to study scales in all forms and colours. :) There are specialists for everything in the world...
"Occupation: Dragon painter for Wizards of the Coast. Awarded with "Best Scales of the Year Award" three times in a row."

I just remembered some 'proper' doodles that I did on a quiz sheet once, whilst waiting for the answers, and I actually bothered to scan them, probably due to being insanely bored.

The bits round the edges are pictures from the picture round, surprisingly.

I like your angel plaid.
  25. Ba Lord of the Pies

Plaid's art needs more crucifiction. Seriously, what's the point of doing Christian themed art if there's no crucifixion? At least show some martyrs being eaten by lions.
  26. Maljonic Administrator

Tephlon's dragon reminds me of the early D & D rule books, it makes me feel all nostalgic.
  27. Tephlon Active Member

    Heh, thanks.

I actually had been looking at the 3.5 Players Handbook just before, so it is kind of inspired by the Red Wyrm in there...

    this thread should not die.

Ok, I scanned the sketch of the tattoo I'm going to get.

Now, if I can figure out how to make it show up here....

Anyone have any idea of how to make a pdf smaller?
  30. OmKranti Yogi Wench

Woooo...Garner is a great god. Thanks man!

Edit: That is going to look fucking sick in ink.

    Where's it going?
  32. OmKranti Yogi Wench

On the back of cmy neck, just above the shoulderblades, It's gonna hurt like hell. I can't wait!
  33. chrisjordan New Member

Lol, you psycho. What does it mean?

I'm thinking of having a message tattoo'd across my forehead in stylishly incorrect kanji.
  34. OmKranti Yogi Wench

It is an Om (obviously) inside a circle, inside a triangle, with the words "unity, service, recovery" in Sanskrit. It's kind of a mergence of my hindu beliefs and my greatfulness to AA for my life, and my dedication to helping others recover. Make sense? No, I didn't think it would. nevermind.
  35. chrisjordan New Member

No, that makes sense. I can definitely think of worse things to have tattooed.

For mine, I'm thinking of a chat-up line. So all I have to do is say, 'Hi there!', and then they turn and see it and are totally impressed.

    Because everybody knows incorrect kanji.
  36. OmKranti Yogi Wench

I can totally see that working for you Chris! I support your decision to do this.
  37. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

Erm... I think it will look great. Do we mean the same thing?
  38. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

I've been mucking around in MS Paint again, this time copying a photograph using the old-fashioned grid method and limiting myself to a five-tone palette. I haven't yet worked up the energy to go through de-gridding, so here's the picture I've been working from and the unfinished version:

"The boy with a bum for eyes" speech bubble: 'I cry poo'

" The man with a testicle for a head... often wishes he was dead'

This is just a heart with wings, i draw it alot. I think if i was to get a tatoo (which i'm considering) it would be a more manly verison of this, maybe with sharper lines etc.
  40. OmKranti Yogi Wench

Yes, we do! Very nice paint stuff. I don't have the patience for that.

Rinso, thats some interesting stuff there. I love how doodles can really tell you alot about a person. I mean take the radical difference in Plaid and Rinso's doodling. I mean, wow.

Yeah, Plaid comes across as a right mentalist.
  43. chrisjordan New Member

Rinso, bums for eyes is all very well, but really you need to draw a person with a bumnose also.
  44. Katcal I Aten't French !

Crying is one thing, sneezing and picking one's nose is quite another thing...
  45. chrisjordan New Member

And a talking bumnose is something else altogether.
  46. plaid New Member

i have always thought about how interesting it is what the things i scribble on paper might say about who i am..

thank heaven i'm not the same as rincewind. :p

i have no functional scanner anymore, so i tried taking some rubbish photographs of these doodles. sorry the're fuzzy and blah.

Doors and Ella came to visit me and Garner the other week, and we produced some interesting 'pictures' playing Cranium. If my scanner worked, I'd scan in Ella's 'fox'.

That made me laugh out loud, which distracted Garner from his game! Shame on you, Kat!

I stand suitably chastised ::sticks lower lip out in shame::...the toffee was nice, though. American Nips.
