    Hello.

I'm back, I guess. I flew back from Australia earlier this week. I'll be staying in the Netherlands until April next year at least this time around, so I should be back to boring you lot regularly soon enough.

Highlights of the trip included spotting Clay's Australian Goth twin, getting a hug from the Free Hugs guy, volunteering at a vegan festival and watching The Chaser.

Melbourne is awesome, but lacks the penguins it promises. Kangaroos only pop up as roadkill (unless, I suppose, you go to a zoo or something). Possums are cute, little buggers, but they are prone to kegging out in your walls (seriously, the things spend whole nights wrestling and screaming).

I visited the place where I want to get my Ph. D and met with some people there. My future is all planned out now.

Also, my 'fro is gone! For good, probably.

There had to be some sad news in all that I guess...

    Welcome back, Coppe !

Sounds ace, I would have gone to Ramsay Street myself if I went to Melbourne.

    Thanks all!

Haven't heard of it. What can you find there?

We spent most of the trip trying out the different vegan/vegetarian restaurants. Melbourne is a good place for them.

    Welcome back, CY.

Right, now maybe Coppe can get some unnatural selection happening here.

Neighbours, a popular Aussie soap opera is set there, it's kindof the stay-at-home mother's daily fix in England. I bet Mal has net curtains and practices crochet in his spare time too...

(ok, so I know all about Neighbours too, so what ? )

It has over 180 million viewers every day, I don't think they can all be stay at home mothers - that's 3 times the population of the UK watching it.

    [WIKI]Neighbours[/WIKI] rocks! :pirate:

Well of course not, but is is rather sterotypical of that sort of series, a bit like days of our lives or the young and the restless are elsewhere...

I think their biggest demographic is actually teenagers.

Oh god I'm embarrassed to think of that many people watching that appalling program... it just bites. I always thought that planks of wood could act better and the plots simply don't make any sense. I'm obviously seeking the wrong things from my TV drama because I always seem to be disappointed.

hey Coppe, welcome back to the board and i'm sorry i didn't get my arse into gear to meet up but hey if your doing your PhD here I can probably claim it as a tax deduction and say it was for research purposes :)

That's why we all watch it, because it's so naff that it's funny. Even the creators and the actors themselves know the plots are rubbish, it's not meant to be anything like reality in any way. It's especially appealing to people in the miserable hemisphere because of the nice blue skies and sunshine they have all the time on Neighbours, even when there isn't any they deliberately make it look like there is.
