Right, I posted it on Bmail in the original thread. It didn't bump, though, and I don't know who's on the mailing list, so I'll PM as well. Just a sec...

    Edit: done.
  2. Katcal I Aten't French !

Got the PM ok, thanks Chris...

"So, what did you do in London ?"
"Well, I met up with these guys I know off the Internet and we sat together and wrote a card for a Mormon missionary in Canada"
"Ah huh... oh, there's someone I know, must go..."

 My life is madness. I like it like that.

My non-online friends are still often horrified at the idea of me meeting people I know online. They're convinced you're all axe-murderers (or murderers of a more likely variety), and are usually nonplussed to hear we spend most of the time hanging around in coffee bars.
  4. Katcal I Aten't French !

Actually, there was a vray brutal and bloody axe-murder in France just yesterday, so hey, it's not that unthinkable.

Not that I have anything to do with it. Remember I told you this, once the police find the bodies.

I WANT TO BE THERE AND MEET YOU CRAZY AXE MURDERERS!

    I feel so alone...*

*No. Type again. I do not feel alnoe, whatever that is...
  6. Katcal I Aten't French !

Tell you what, maybe we'll put down our axes for five minutes and write you a postcard too, after we've finished with that crazy Mormon gal...

But hey, we will miss you too

Oh, and also, I am bringing a surprise guest, that some of you have met before and will be happy to see again, I think...

    Are they French like you?
  8. Katcal I Aten't French !

    **bitchslaps Mal** Hey !!

I'm not quite sure what nationality she is, but she was there at Dutchcon last year...

    Evil Puppy!!!!!!
  10. Katcal I Aten't French !

Lol, no, unfortunately not. Although I wasn't aware that Evil Puppy was a Bitch... but it figures.

I bought our train tickets today, we're heading out to London on Friday evening. It's soooo much cheaper when you book tickets in advance, it was like £300 less than just buying them from the machine on the day like we normally do.
  12. redneck New Member

I have never used an ax to murder anyone. Nor have I even murdered an ax. On the subject of chainsaws I will keep my mouth shut though. As well as the subject of disposing of bodies with a wood chipper.
  13. spiky Bar Wench

It figures... Just when I thought it was safe to go on the internet Nate pops up with something like that...

Although our government is doing a damn good job of scaring everyone about the internet... According to this its full of paedophiles acting like teenagers just waiting to suck you in rape and kill you!!!! Oh the danger! Why let reality get in the way of a good scare campaign...
  14. Katcal I Aten't French !

Well, I guess that as none of the people coming are prepubescent teenagers (Rinso said he wasn't coming) the paedophiles weren't interested. But yeah, I am the president of an association created solely to help organise gatherings for the players of a free wargame on internet, and getting the bank to open an account for us was one hell of a job... Admittedly, we have been known to torture people with coconuts and waterpistols. But they didn't know that !
  15. spiky Bar Wench

Yes they did. Banks know what you ate for breakfast. Its a little known fact that is never revealed in case the thought of your financial institution foreclosing on your mortgage because you at Cheerios this morning would create mass hysteria and the downfall of all human kind...

Going back to time and place. I'm happy with Kat's idea of the palace theatre. Any preferance as to time?
  17. Katcal I Aten't French !

Nope, my idea was the Dominion theatre, it's right in front of you when you come out of the tube station at Tottenham court road, and has a giant silver glittery Freddy Mercury above the entrance. Not easy to miss...

As for time, would 11am be ok for everyone ? it would leave us time to get a bite to eat and queue for the signing...
  18. Maljonic Administrator

We can meet at 11 am in front of Freddie if you like?
  19. jaccairn New Member

    That's fine.

I knew I should have read through the previous posts.
  20. Katcal I Aten't French !

But thanks all the same for mixing up the two theaters, as now I know that the Palace, just down the road from there, is showing Spamalot. Actually, if we have nothing better to do, there are 2 shows on Saturdays (3pm and 8pm) and the tickets are as low as £17, so that might be another idea for an activity, depending on people's train times and so-on...
  21. redneck New Member

Kat, be sure to check the seating chart for the 17 pound ticket. When I was there, we were going to watch a show that had a great ticket price that sat one directly behind one of the supporting columns. Anywhere other than behind the columns was quite a different amount. If it was for a concert it wouldn't be too bad, but for a play?
  22. Maljonic Administrator

I'm not too fussed about seeing a show myself, though I did consider Resident Evil at the cinema.
  23. Katcal I Aten't French !

Mal, how could you !

Red, I know about cheap seats, but considering that the lowest prices for even the crappiest seats in many London shows are more usually around £30, one with prices that start around £17 must have affordable reasonably well-placed seats.

All that said, it was merely another idea for possible things to do without having to cross half of London, but I'm quite happy to just hang around and decide when we're there.
  24. missy New Member

Mal, go. Its a brilliant film.
  25. Maljonic Administrator

There is a cinema just up the road from our flat in London that I've never been to, even after nearly 20 years. One of these days I may just go!
  26. Rincewind Number One Doorman

Sorry I didn't attend. I woke up very hungover in a house I'd never been in having realised that I didn't have my bag, coat, wallet or phone. Then spent a horrible few hours looking for a pub begining with E in Soho.

I did manage to find my stuff though.
  27. Maljonic Administrator

We thought you might have a hangover or something, the first time Electric_Man phoned you there was no answer, then every time after that it went to voice mail. :)
  28. Rincewind Number One Doorman

My phone was in my missing bag. Either the battery died or the bar staff turned if off.

I wouldn't of been much fun though, as i was very, very, very hungover.
  29. mowgli New Member

...Wow!!! That's almost how the "Red Dwarf" series begins, except the main character doesn't find his stuff, and ends up volunteering onto an intergalactic mining ship in order to get home.

(Glad you found your stuff )
  30. Katcal I Aten't French !

**sulks** I don't care, Ben has a mission to poke you hard with the special weapon I gave him... And don't even think about hibernating for a million years on a spaceship, you will get poked anyhow.

Edit : that said, it was great to see you all (again, for some), even the standing around for 3 hours was cool. For some reason my conversation implant flatlined from the minute Terry said hello to me and all I could produce was a couple of inane platitudes when I had been working out what to say for the last... oh, 6 months ? Lemon Slice Girl finally made her way into the Garner household, I had the most amazing slice of chocolate cake ever, and my feet did not jump off the end of my legs and attempt to strangle me, as I kept thinking they would. Forbidden planet is the best named place I have ever seen, I am glad I live so far from it and so I don't have to work too hard at not going there and spending all my cash.

Here it is, a once in a lifetime experience... Katcal lost for words as Terry signs her book (note Electric Ben in the background looking on in shock):

WOW Ben. Your hair is so long. It should probably make you look mysterious and artistic but instead it just makes you look girly and and bum like. Cool. ;)
  34. Katcal I Aten't French !

I keep trying to persuade him to get a'fro, but he just won't listen to common sense.

By the way, we are home now, after an amazing time in London.
Sunday was pretty restfull, we wandered around and stolled through Hyde Park, past Buckingham Palace, and St James' Park, hunting for Squirrels. Then we wandered a little more, up into Islington, and went back to the hotel.
    On Monday we went to:
    - The Mandir in Neasden, the largest hindu temple outside India, an amazing place that is strangely situated in the middle of a very residential area, right near Ikea.
    - Chowki indian restaurant, not the classical Indian, I must say, but very nice, pleasant and tasty.
    - Oxford Street and Regent Street, including getting lost in Selfridges food hall, which was fun. They have lollipops with flies, ants, scorpions and so-on. Eww.
    - Spamalot, which must be the best musical ever, it was amazing. Also, seeing a former Doctor Who doing King Arthur is just so weird, but he is very good at it.
    - And finally, the Geoff Show on Virgin Radio, the coolest people on earth, they were so nice, and we said a few words on air and all, it was just amazing.
Monday was a very full day !
Tuesday was quite short and involved mostly waiting for the plane. However we did have a quick wander round Camden Market, one of my favourite places in London.
  38. Katcal I Aten't French !

Uh... I just realised that in our excitement, we completely forgot the diary and writing to plaid...

Oh wow, yeah, I totally forgot about that. Must have been Terry's book signing, Forbidden Planet, Orcs Nest and the Ritz clouding our minds.
  41. Katcal I Aten't French !

My mind wasn't cloudy, it was wiped completely clean by meeting Terry. And standing around for 3 hours.
  42. Electric_Man Templar

My mind was empty beforehand, this must be what the ultimate state of zen is like, they're always telling people to clear their minds.

Cool photo's. The only thing spoiling the evil monkey photo is all those people in the way...! :p

I have to apologise to Ben for accidently insulting him with my incomprehensible accent.

We were standing outside Forbidden Planet*, waiting to get our books signed, and we were over a sewer grate. Interesting smells were intermittently wafting up. Jonathan made a comment about how bad it smelled after I had noticed it for a while, so I said "It's been", meaning, "It has been."

Right after I said that, everyone started joking that Ben smelled, and I didn't get why they had started joking about that.

Later, after confirming with Jonathan, I realised that everyone thought I had said "It's Ben".

I guess I am going to need a translator from now on.

    * I can now say that I have been to Forbidden Planets on both sides of the Atlantic.
  46. Katcal I Aten't French !

I still think it was Ben, though.
