BBC reports an earthquake in the UK - BBC NEWS | UK | England | Earthquake hits much of England Everyone ok? I'm not too sure of the geography to understand if this was close to anybody here.
It occurred in the middlish part of the country so those of us on the edges (bottom right corner) didn't know a thing until watching the news this morning.
Apparently it woke most people up that live near me, but true to form i snored my way right through it :redface: so like jaccairn i found out from the news...
We aren't too far away. Both Dave and me were woken up. The whole room was shaking, my drawers by the side of the bed rattled so much! I was frightened and havent got out of bed so quick in my life. I had bad back problems most of yesterday and even that didn't stop me. Dave checked outside to see if there was a big truck parking or something (our home is old and would shake if someone sneezed badly outside) but there was nothing. We eventually went back to sleep and was woken at 7am by Alan Deaddicote on BBC radio 2 saying Market Rasin was the centre of it, Lincolnshire was hit bad by the sounds of it. My Mom is in Coventry and it made her jump that much, she has hurt her back and legs. She said there is no damage though so all is good. The dogs slept through it, not a stir.
And I thought animals would notice beforehand? What good is it to have them around if they don't wake you up and gently push you out of the area beforehand? So much about instincts... Sorry.
Maybe dogs know the difference between a bad earthquake and the rattle-your-drawers-a-bit variety, and can't be bothered to wake up in case of the latter :tongue:
I felt it last night whilst I was watching 'Wolfcreek' on DVD. At first I wasn't sure what it was and just forgot about it and then I heard on the radio that there had actually been an earthquake. I'm surprised they've not blamed it on global warming.....
I said the same thing to Marcia right after it happened, that some idiot is bound to blame global warming. P.S. I'm a bit of an earthquake veteran, last night's was my third.
No we didn't feel it here in Australia... I've never felt an earthquake which I think should be on everyone's list of things to do before they die: Feel earthquake. If only Australia had more continental plates rubbing in the middle there'd be plenty more earthquakes to feel...
Weirdest earthquake I've sat through - in school 10th grade. Two girls suddenly fell from their seats, and then said there was an earthquake. The rest of the class felt nothing at all, and we made a lot of fun of those two. In the evening news, we found out that there really had been an earthquake at that time in Maharashtra. Note to self: Stay away from Mal.
I read that some people thought it was a bomb placed by Al Qaeda - why they would place a bomb in a town in Lancashire most people have never heard of .... And that it was suspicious because it was very windy, and then the wind stopped - that never happens. Especially not in England. In February.
The first earthquake I was in I thought it was my ex mother-in-law walking about upstairs, she was a big lady and the house was paper thin (literally, it was in Japan).
There was a release of gaseous substance from my rear just before I felt it, now you come to mention it. As for Wolfcreek I did love it.
