Damn, Sorry Maz, thats what happens when one posts messages whilst half asleep:) (thanks for the luck)

Thanks for the Pic Spiky - Now that is a dognified name.

Redneck man may you not live in interesting times for the rest of your year - seizures are very scary for all concerned. Well done for your calm approach.

Ok, I get the rest, but Wolfington ?
  3. spiky Bar Wench

Wolfington comes from a dog I had as a kid whose name name was Benjamin Franklin Wolfington. My husband liked the sound of it, he reckons its dognified, so it got tacked onto the end of Jackson O'Neil Carter. We tossed up whether to call him the second or third but we figured we might be taking it a bit far by that stage.

Red I'm glad the tree felling went OK despite the drama and that the guy is OK and wasn't up the tree when it happened.

    Got the job...Got the job.

    Randywine does a little dance...

No questions about animals though? Plenty about J2ME and the Object Orientated Environment and user guides and framemaker and robohelp and team building and task focus and etc ... ad infinitum ...

    ...So happy.

    No dogfood for Randy tonight.

    R.

p.s. Wolfington is cool (both the pup and the name)
  5. mazekin Member

Congratulations Randywine! I'm delighted for you!

Spiky, Before I'd even gotten to the end of your post I'd already tacked 'The Third' onto his name. You can never go too far. That's my new motto.

I have a floor in my bathroom! (Doesn't sound big, but believe me, it is. All the floorboards were rotten and there was a danger of me going through to downstairs.) I no longer have to have a piece of carpet down so I don't injure myself. I can walk around in bare feet again. It's pretty and it's flat, and there's no nails or splinters of wood sticking out of it and it's not dangerous in any way. And it's pretty. And it looks nice. Have I mentioned that it's flat...God I love carpenters. Tradesmen kick ass - in a good way.
  6. jaccairn New Member

Congratulations on the job randywine :D.

Sounds like a great floor Maz. Just make sure the tiler covers it when he's in.
  7. peapod_j New Member

Congrats on the new job randy. I’m still looking

I had an assessment yesterday about my disability’s and now they want my past reports which are held in my old school so I will have to call and beg the school that I hated for it.

Well done Maz for getting a floor on you bathroom I know what its like to live in a building site for nearly 10 years.

    Spiky your puppy is cute.

Thanks for the congrats I start on Monday but...

As I am now a contractor (much more money in it in the computer world...) I have to either register myself with an umbrella company or create a Limited company of my own (this is for payroll/tax/ad infinitum) - so thinking that an umbrella company would be less hassle (cos they do it all for you) I went ahead and registered with one that had been recommended to me. So then yesterday I was told that my new clients only deal with a select list of these companies and the one I had registered with wasn't on their list. So to save any more messing around I am now the sole director / employee of a new company owned by myself (with Mrs R. filling in as secretary) Hurrrah!

Well, Hurrah, it would be but my 1 share is only worth £1. and I now have to learn to be an accountant.

Oh well maybe the empire starts here :pirate:

    R.

    p.s. Thanks for listening
  9. Katcal I Aten't French !

Well, at least there's one good thing in all that mess... You won't get into trouble with the wife for banging the secretary... :D
  10. randywine Member

Nice one Kat - Never though of that
  11. Katcal I Aten't French !

I am currently at work. Yes, that's right, it's 4am on a Sunday. Important release to deploy for the website, minimum customer impact, all that.

    Want bed. Now.
  12. spiky Bar Wench

Poor Kat. Think of the starving children in Africa whose lives will be made so much better from this website.... wait... let me think... No your just a corporate animal whose youth and beauty sleep has been sacraficed on the altar of capitalism...

Oh and Randy could I buy 1 share in your company? I'll expect a dividend at the end of the year too :)
  13. Katcal I Aten't French !

meh I gave up on youth and beauty sleep long ago...
  14. mowgli New Member

Lesseee.... Sleeping Beauty had both and look where it go her: after a 100 years, woke up in a decrepid, weed-choked castle, all alone except for a creepy Prince who goes around kissing unconscious people...
  15. randywine Member

Spiky - There is only 1 share...and it's mine, MINE I tells ya! alllll minnnneeee mmmwwwhhhhaaaa....

[Clears Throat] Ahem ... yes anyway

Started job today - was worried that I had forgotten all I knew about Java and C++ was delighted when it all came rushing back ... It's all good.:)

I had an update meeting with my boss yesterday and there is a position becoming available in the main campus up in fife. That’s a 3 hour commute every day one way so I would have to move up there to make it work. However while researching house prices on line just to rent a one bed flat unfurnished is £360 per month that is £60 more than I can afford on my current wage. I don’t think its viable but I have 4 to 5 weeks to make up my mind and they have to run the idea past the head of department who could say no (fingers crossed that she does). So I’m still looking for work and hopping that something comes up.

On another note it’s coming up to my year anniversary of being with my boyfriend. Yay. Longest I have ever stayed with a guy. I’m hopping he does something special for it. But I don’t mind if he doesn’t.

I had to go to the doctors today about my foot. I dropped the vacuum on it a few years back and dislocated it. My big brother who was up put it back into joint for me but a calcium growth grew on it and the past week it has been painful so I thought I would get it sorted sooner or latter. The doctor told me to go to the hospital and get x-rays taken so I finished work early for once and went and got them done now I’m just waiting for the results which will be in next week.

Isn't Fife further into the badlands from where you are now? Sounds a bit scary. :)
  18. peapod_j New Member

It is the people up there are scared to cross over the bridge encase they get civilised.
  19. randywine Member

    Badlands? BADLANDS? how dare ye...

    R.
  20. Maljonic Administrator

Okay, beyond the boundaries of the civilised world then. :)

Where the banjo music begins to play...deliverance country...::insert banjo music from Deliverance here::
  22. spiky Bar Wench

Sorry but it needs to add from the Simpson's Darleen and Loinel in the back of a ute (pickup to the philistines):

Darleen: Lionel do we have to make out next to my parents?
Lionel: Just remember Darleen, they're my parents too.

Insert Yokel on the back of another ute playing the banjo.

    Does that some up Fife?

I was thinking more like Mad Max, but with green glens instead of parched deserts. I was also talking about pretty much anywhere north of the Scottish border through the eyes of a woefully misinformed, yet nevertheless believing, Sassanak. :)
  24. Katcal I Aten't French !

Don't knock scotland, they have Rabbits.

But then they also have Doors, so... meh.
  25. spiky Bar Wench

So sick. Can't get any work done. If you need me I'll be doing a Stargate marathon...

    **cough**
  26. Katcal I Aten't French !

Another early morning at work, got in at 4am, got up at 2:30 and coincidentally*, cracked a large lump off a back molar yesterday evening, thankfully it was root-canalled ages ago so it's only the gum that's sore but still, it sucks. I don't mind going to the dentist's, it's just having to find a new (and good) one that's annoying.

Spiky, you heartless bar-wench, drool at Daniel and Jack for me, eh? My only consolation is that my team leader at work is called O'Neill...

*for those not familiar with the old dad-joke, tooth-hurty, time to go to the dentist's...
  27. Maljonic Administrator

What, 4am? Have you given up the web design lark and started working on a farm - gone native?
  28. Katcal I Aten't French !

nope, but our websaver is run by potato power... Important product release, minimal client impact, all that...
  29. Maljonic Administrator

I see, so you're harvesting your own power source before you get to work on those style sheets?
  30. Katcal I Aten't French !

Nah, we exploit the native workers to do that task...
  31. mazekin Member

Yup, there's nothing I love more'n pickin' spuds at 3 am for those blow-ins up in Dublin...of course, it is rather difficult as I actually have no idea what a potato plant looks like. There's a lot of trial and error involved...
  32. Katcal I Aten't French !

Meh, silly, potatoes grow on trees. Really, it's so hard to get qualified labour around here...
  33. mazekin Member

    ::Smacks Head::

So that's where I've been going wrong! D'oh!
  34. TamyraMcG Active Member

I could tell you what a potato plant looks like, but it's more boring then you'd believe.

Saturday I got a new great niece, Celina Marie- 7lbs 3oz, 19 in long. She looks like a fine baby in the pictures, I probably will see her this weekend.

the first picture is her with her big brother, Connor. I think he kinda likes her.

Mazel Tov, Tamyra :)! They both look adorable!
  36. Rewr New Member

Aww what a cutie, Tamyra. A great niece wow.

Sorry I've been absent for a while - still trying to get 'me time', and am now putting me foot down - or is that foot in mouth?

But what a time to log back in - photos! My timing can be good some times.

Anyway me and OH settling in quite nicely - few hiccups, but hey only to be expected. The dog as predicted has not been a problem :D

Well holiday number one now by with - camping weekend, in a field in fife. A good time was had by all despite the weather.

Now I've just to get all excited about the DWcon, which will be my last holiday for a while, probably a few years! Alas OH cannot make it, so plenty of me time , but no internet .

Nowt much else happening that I can think will be of interest.

Hope everyone's well, and are having a good year.
  37. mazekin Member

Gorgeous baby Tamyra, and Connor is going to be a heartbreaker when he gets older! He's a cutie pie!

Well Decision day is Friday. so getting ready for that. My partner and I had an ok anniversary but it would have been better if Bristol City had not lost the football.

Work is very quiet and I am so board I have been untangling paperclips. That is how board I am.

Well Tamyra the baby is cute. Reminds me of how cute my second cousins where before they grew up.

Got a couple of job application forms though to day so I will fill them out and send them back. Fingers crossed as they are working in the national library of Scotland.

Celina is a very satisfactory child, her parents asked me to watch her while they went to the store for a bit. I fed her a little and she burped for me then we just rocked a while and I think we both sort of nodded off. she is just a mite of a baby, starting to look around just a little. her grandpa thinks when she does start talking she won't stop :) He may be a prophet.
  41. peapod_j New Member

Well I'm going to fife. All my friends and relatives know. I start in a week. I am so nervous but I'm going to give it a go. Well wish me luck.
  42. Maljonic Administrator

Good luck. I moved to somewhere far away once, but it's only far away until you get there - then you just get used to it in no time and pay visits to where you came from. You'll settle in pretty quickly I'm sure.

I was nervous though myself, I could hardly drink my beer when I went for a farewell drink I was so nervous! :)
  43. Rewr New Member

Good luck. You will be fine once you get there!
  44. Sunna New Member

Good luck! I once went, with only a small backpack, from Iceland to Edinburgh and lived there for a year and I still remember the thrill of breaking out of your mould.
  45. Katcal I Aten't French !

If you're mouldy, a good shower and some anti-fungus cream should do the trick.

That reminds me, where IS Rinso? He has a photo competition to organise, damn him!
  46. peapod_j New Member

saw the place today. im moving in on sunday. cant wait still got a cuple of days to go but its going to be good.

Tried to make falafel. Failed. Died that little bit more inside.
  48. mazekin Member

Well, you know what they say...if at first you don't succeed, order takeout.

At least, that's what I say. That's why the guys at the Chinese takeaway know me by my first name and laugh when I come in
  49. Garner Great God and Founding Father

Since moving to England, I've twice received christmas cards from indian take aways.
  50. Katcal I Aten't French !

I haven't had an indian meal since January. I miss it :(
However, now we have a car, I am hoping we can resume our gluttonous existence. The prospect of burning calories on the way to and back from a restaurant kindof makes the whole going out for a meal seem pointless...

    Uni's out for summer.

This means my brain's on vacations. I take no responisibility for any posts I may or may not write.
  52. Sunna New Member

Hey,you read minds!!At thousands of miles away, too! I was just thinking where he could be when I logged on.Spooky,eh? But not as spooky as the mould joke:)
  53. peapod_j New Member

Moved in today start my new post tomorow house mates are ok but they are moving out soon. Looking forward to tomrow and I have internet. Yay I can stay up to date with every one and not have to do it at home or at work (like I would ever do anything like that). Only problem is that I dont have a desk in my room so I'm thinking of geting a little fold away table to put my laptop on rather than have it on the bed but I'm not sure.

well wish me luck for my new job.
  54. redneck New Member

    Good luck, Peapod.

    Good luck Peapod!
  56. peapod_j New Member

Well my first day went ok the team I'm working in are all really nice and I get on with them all. I also work flexi time witch means if I work more than 37 hours a week I maybe able to get lots of time off it also means I will be able to work quite a few hours and be able to go early on Fridays which means I can probably get home earlier.

Well I hope tomorrow goes as well as today did. Going to take a photo of my best friends little lad in tomorrow so he can smile at me and encourage me when I’m felling down. Will have to leave the house earlier though tomorrow, as I have to put money on my mobile and get change for the busses. I’m thinking of going out to the pub tomorrow night but I’m not sure.
  57. spiky Bar Wench

    SOunds prett good peapod.

I got back from a weekend down the coast. I took Jackson on a doggie visit to my sisters new dog. They got on like a house on fire with the wrestling nearly wiping out a few people's shins but that's good for dogs.

All was going well until Jackson realised he could climb over tin under the house and get himself stuck and stressed under the front of the house. The only way to stop him for me or Dave to be around constantly and rather than do that we went home a little early. Other than that it was fun to get away for a while.
  58. Katcal I Aten't French !

I am currently feeling rather smug for managing to place, spontaneously, "when shall we three meet again" in a meeting.
  59. mazekin Member

Did anyone get it - or did it just go straight over their heads? I love it when something like that happens. I waited nearly six years to be able to finish off the "No man is an Island" quote. I completely floored the guy I was talking to with "Except when he's in the bath." Kudos to you!

I have an interview tomorrow for an internal promotion. I am biting my nails at the thought. I hate'm. I hate'em I hate'em I hate'em! And I've never worked with either of the people interviewing me, so they don't really know me. And according to my sister, walking in and saying "I'm shit hot, give me the job" won't work. Damn!:D
  60. peapod_j New Member

It would make them remember you though if not for all the good positive things you have going for you. I’m sure you’ll do ok. As my mum says, "if its for you it wont go by you"

Well learnt new things today and I’m really tired so I’m staying at the house I have washing to start tomorrow and I have to pack for the weekend. Looking forward to it though. I nearly fell asleep on the bus back not a good idea when it goes to St Andrews. Well I hope tomorrow goes ok.
