    Hi Simkin....Welcome!

The boards are a bit quiet of late - hibernation or somesuch. Enjoy this space! :D We do.

    TakeItEazy and Simkon, welcome.

1)Its my webname, I use it everywhere. In primary school my friends used to call me the cat because I was quick and could climb pretty fast. I added in the arrow part because I had a thing for archery at one point.
    2)I'm a woman.
    3) I'm 21 and I live in a truck on the roads of America. This places me in 48 States I believe.
    4) Yes I do. I think it's already done in the hogfather and I look forward to many more. The cartoons were pretty good too (I'm sure I'll never hear the end of that)
    5) I saw the cartoons on TV back in New Zealand and fell in love with them. I love that old witty english humour. I didn't know they were a book series until I was browsing through the library and came across the Wyrd sisters.
    6) "errr...."

Welcome, Arrowcat. Glad you could join us.

So, are you originally from New Zealand, or did you just visit there a while?
  5. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

A late greeting to you Arrowcat. It's been quite a while since anyone actually introduced themselves in this thread. What's everyone else afraid of?
  6. Gypsy New Member

    Hey there Arrowcat,

I hope you find a home here like we all did....it's slightly dysfunctional but always a blast.
If we were all normal, life would be so boring.

  7. Arrowcat New Member

yup, I'm originally from New Zealand. I came over here and got married - and stayed. America has certainly been a bit of a culture shock. I mean it doesn't help that my in-laws are nut cases as well. I love the weather over here.

    Evening all!

I'm a lapsed member (used to be called Blower, but can't remember my password for that name!)- Joculator and Katcal got me all covered in cheese in some strange form of mating dance (?) several months back...

Please be gentle - I'm still recovering!

    Here's the important info:
    1. It's my name - my mother chose it.
    2. Male
    3. I'm 28 - does that mean I'm middle aged? Birmingham, UK
    4. Yes - I have the faith
    5. It's all about the dark Morris...
    6. Fatherhood is like a kick in the... answers on a postcard please.
  14. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Hellooooo my young friend. It's about time time you came out of the closet, so to speak. I can verify that the answers to questions 1-5 are correct (thanks for the monetary contributions) and congratulations on something I predicted about two years ago. Never the less, you are a great mate and will make a wonderful whatever when the time comes. Okay, I'll come clean... Matt is my mate of 10 years standing and is about to become a daddy.. go for it, mate!
Please be gentle with im. He's had a long term with the kiddiewinkies before the holidays.
  15. Hsing Moderator

No, of course not. It makes you three years younger than me. Far from middle aged.:pirate:

My husband insists he never felt as kicked as I felt in the beginning. Now that her aim improves considerably, this changed a bit, and he occasionally feels kicked into everything from the navel down, and the upper parts, too, if she can catch him lying on the couch.

The most telling thing ever to be published from him on the matter can be found here:

Thanks, Hsing. I'm very pleased to hear it! Joculator's making me feel my age with my impending initiation into the world of fatherhood.

Mind you, he's the one with the birthday today
  18. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

I object to being blamed for having a birthday. What MattKP does in his own time is his business.
Mind you he had a very good teacher on his limited stay up here in the northeast It just goes to show you can't tell these youngsers of today anything useful.

When I saw thet Joc's post was the last one in this thread,

I thought he'd read the instructions a little wrong...

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

I wanted something Pratchett related that was vaguely witty. The name plays on my alleged 'campness'.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

there has been quite of lot of confusion over this.
    I am male.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I'm 29, and I live in Leicestershire, England.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

It could. I'm happy with the job SKY are doing so far, tbh.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

The cover art tempted me. I asked santa for the 5th Elephant Hard Back the year it was out. By the following xmas I'd read all the discworld books.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

    I'm hungry.
  21. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

A warm welcome to the 'Rubber Room' of your own imagination...

HEy Mattkp, mmm impending parenthood! yah for you two! its fab, loss of sleep, being able to call your life your own, nappies, more nappies & all night feeding sessions.... and then they start moving! nothing quite likeit very hard to express to non- parental types. & you get to indoctrinate them to pratchett!! its all good!
    cheers wilva;)
  23. Joculatrix New Member

    Hello

After a lot of cajoling, I finally succumbed to the threats (I don't think) :D

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Obviously its the female version of a nearly similar name already here.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Very much female or my partner is in for a shock.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I fell into Durham City around the Mesozoic Period.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck?
I think two have already been successfully made - next question please.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
Sole responsibility goes to that little known character, Joculator. You may have heard of him.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Always put off until tomorrow, even if you can do it today.
  24. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Well now the confusion starts. Welcome Joculatrix, but didn't I already say that when you got back from work, dear?

Let confusion reign. Those avatars are sooo near identical, hur.. hur.. hur! :D

    *waves*

Hey y'all! Emily here, Vice Chair of the North American Discworld Convention 2009). New to the board, NOT new to the fandom. *g* I came over here because I saw Joculator's recent quiz and it looked challenging. So of course I wanted to play. :)

    Questions:

    1) My sn is not from Discworld. It's a combination of the name of Merlin's mother from the Stephen Lawhead Merlin books, and the meaning of "merlin." (As in the bird.) I've had the sn in various forums for 14 years.

    2) I am quite definitely a female.

    3) late twenties. Washington, DC area.

    4) I liked Hogfather a lot, although there were some places that I felt were a bit slow. The attention to detail was amazing. I loved the portrayal of Susan (spot-on) and man, Mr. Teatime creeped me out in an awesome way. I was bothered by the fact that Death's mouth didn't move, and also, that he didn't "SOUND LIKE JAMES EARL JONES." *g* But I still liked him. Also there were a few special effects that were probably not quite as effective as they could have been due to budget. But overall, v. good. Golden moments: the bit in the mall, the bit with the little matchgirl, both bits where Susan fights Teatime, and the bit where Death gives Susan the Hogswatch card. Oh, and of course Terry's cameo.
Haven't yet seen Colour of Magic, but I expect great things.

    5) I picked up Soul Music from my library's browsing shelf, and I was hooked. They only had about 6 of the Discworld books, so after I read all of those I started buying them, and now, of course, I have the whole collection. Heh.

    6) "Can I take a nap now please?" :)
  45. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Hi charishawk and welcome. Hope you find lots more interesting things here apart from the odd quiz. I am truly flattered by that.

Exits page left, muttering... "A fan! A fan!"

But then, can we trust an attorney to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Hmm. :D
  46. Maljonic Administrator

    Hello charishawk. :)
  47. charishawk New Member

Hmm. Well, I can promise you the first part, at least. And a part truth or half-truth is better than no truth at all, right? ;)

Hi Charishawk, Weatherwaxwannabe and July, welcome to the board.

  51. July New Member

    hello randywine
  52. Casaninbetween New Member

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Casanova was Roundworld's greatest lover. Casanunda is the Discworld's second greatest lover. I guess I'm a bit of a mediocre lover, so I thought Casaninbetween fit like a wahooney in a paperbasket.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

There has been some confusion about this, on and off, concerning me as well. I am, by the current definition, male.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I have the mind of a twelve-year-old (I hope I never meet him, in case he starts to claim it), but am 25 in the chronological sense. I am born and raised in Sweden, which is also where I currently reside.

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and do you have faith in future productions being good, better or worse than current ones?

No, just a few youtube clips, as well as some episodes of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters on the telly. They were OK I guess, but not super. I'd like, for example, to see some great special effects. I have faith in future productions being better, since Pratchett interest seems to be on the increase, making the demand for good movies stronger and giving the big movie makers an incentive to make films based on his work.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I was sitting in an armchair in my cousin's room, when I started to get bored and picked up a book from his floor at random and started to flip through it. It was Wyrd Sister; I was sold after ten seconds.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It's not from Pratchett, but it's damn good.
  53. charishawk New Member

Although actually, Terry has noted that he also believes following this rule to be a good idea. :)

    Welcome!
  54. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Welcome Casaninbetween, you sound just like the type of [-]loony[/-], errr, I mean sensibly balanced type of person who should feel right at home here.:D

  59. Twilightpacer New Member

Hi, i'm new to the forum but not in any way, shape or form new to
    Terry Pratchett's Discworld. :D

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

It's my Livejournal name and the 'pacer' part is part of the online usernames
that i use in the Transformers fandom, and on fanfiction net.

    2) Are you male or female?

    I'm a female.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I'm not newly hatched and i'm not wrinkly: 31
Location: Scandinavia, Sweden to be specific. :)

    4) Have you seen any Discworld movies, did you like them and
do you have faith in future productions being good, better or
    worse than current ones?

I've seen Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music and i loved them!
I think future productions of more Discworld movies will be good
    and possibly even better.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I read the children's books as a kid and as a teen i discovered the
    Discworld books as well.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

I have a few general quotes i like to use not really any daily ones.
"Carpe diem" "Seize the day" is one of them.
