I wonder if we need to have a few moderators right away in case a few nasties show up before we get around to voting? I'd like to suggest in no particualr order: Rincewind, Garner, Doors, Buzzfloyd, Ba and maybe myself? Hopefully no one should have any problems with the above list, apart from Garner (who didn't accept nomination the first time, but I believe it would be silly to leave out now) they were all voted tops last time. We can still have the elections and these don't have to be above any future voting; they just seem like obvious choices right now when we don't have any moderation, which is why we came here I think. If this is a bad idea please say so here, this is only my opinion and I have not talked to anyone else about it. Just to clarify my status so people aren't confused: I put this site together and use an account by the name of Astroman to admin the site as a whole, but Astroman has no domain over these message boards as such, there is no user called Astroman that can post messages and he/it can't do any moderating. The only thing redarding us that Astroman can do is make moderators for the message board; so yesterday when I moved the old election posts into the dungeon dimensions I had to go to the admin (Astroman) account, make myself (Maljonic) a moderator then move the threads. After that I went back and changed my status to a normal user again, which is fine for what I was doing but it's going to be a bit of an arse to have to keep doing that until we get around to electing moderators, plus I can only do it while I'm here. What does everyone think?
They aren't all on the same time schedule though. I do think we might need an antipodean representative or two and possibly Asia and somewhere midway between Asia and Western Europe when we consider voting for more moderators in the future. Also I think it's good to do this now because we're going to need our rules posting as soon as possible, moderators can make them sticky so there's no excuses for not seeing them.
Let's make a poll to say: "Should these 5 people (list them) be made an interim moderator team?; Yes or No."
Okay I did it on this thread, go and vote. Can I implement them at the end of today though, say 10 pm, so it doesn't drag on and we can get moving with making sticky posts and stuff?
I didn't realize all of that email was going to get posted... ah well, we had a nice discussion about some other concepts, hopefully we can post exerpts later?

Okay it's done, I just made them all moderators of everything apart from the roleplaying group; we can spread them out a bit later or not if we like?
Oh, and of course, moderators please ask me anything you need to know if you aren't sure about something.
Ok. Not that it's important now, but how do i do the things that a sweeper has to do. Like make stickies, move threads and such?
When you make a new topic you should see underneath the text field some boxes you can tick if you want to: Post topic as: Normal Sticky Announcement An announcment is pretty much the same as a sticky really, it still goes to the top of the lists of posts but just has a different icon... see here for eg: http://maljonicsdreams.com/phpbb2/forum-2.html You can change any thread into a sticky/announcement by editing the first post and making the above choices and submitting again. As for moving threads etc there's some little icons at the bottom of every thread (right under 'Watch this topic for replies') that tells you what they do if you put your mouse over them. Individual posts can be deleted in the top right corner of a posts, everyone has this same icon on their own posts by the way.
gonna need to revisit this, but just a quickie: until we've properly finalized what a moderator is and does, I think we need to be careful about using moderator functions without public deliberation on it. I won't even make a sticky thread in the role play forum until i've had a chance to talk to the rest of the boards about it (particularly those in the role play group). Just my two cents there, though.
Well, I made jackals big thread a sticky one. Mostly cause I think it needs to be, for the moment at least As it's been said elsewhere, it's not great hassle to unsticky it again if people hate the idea and want to go about burning me fior it
