This one has bee going around work at the moment, and although I actually haven't had a chance to do it myself I thought I'd post it here to give you all a chance at it! N.B Please let me know how you get on however don't post the end results! 1. There are 5 houses in 5 different colours. In each house lives a person with a different nationality 2. The 5 owners drink s certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigarette and keep a certain pet 3. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigarette or drink the same beverage. Facts: The Brit lives in the red house The Swede keeps dogs as pets The Dane drinks tea The green house is on the left of the white house The green houses owner drinks coffee The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds The owner of the yellow house smokes dunhill The man living in the centre house drinks milk The Norwegian lives in the first house The man who smokes Blends lives next door to the one who keeps cats The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer The German smokes prince The norwegian lives next door to the blue house The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water
Find out who lives in which house, what the color of each house is, what kind of pet they own, what they smoke, and what they drink. Incidentally, Perdita neglected to mention what the fifth kind of pet was. It's not necessary to solve the riddle, but it would be nice.
I've solved it. (I think) My solution is here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v702/unikhorne/solution.gif
Not a hyper-link, in order to avoid accidental clickage.
Pardon me- the question should be: Who owns the fish? (hence the name of the fifth animal) Also, apologise for the inconcise nature of the thread name-'Riddle' instead of what E-man said.
Ah, just got the answer! I treated it as a logic puzzle, and that's how I suggest it should be solved. I created a large grid like you get for logic puzzles in Puzzle Books. Anyway, your answer is below:
