Yikes... I don't feel all too confident about my knowledge of the situation, but I guess I know enough to get that this sucks big time.
This is a real shame. Benazir Bhutto was a good woman, and a fine future leader for a very troubled country. The attack itself wasn't surprising, with previous attempts on her life taken into consideration. Pakistan just went from bad to worse. EDIT: AKI - Adnkronos international Pakistan: Al-Qaeda claims Bhutto's death
Realistically she was Pakistan's only hope - and a woman leader would have pulled them away from extremism a bit. A sad way to die. ... I suspect the Pakistan army will pick up the reins again, this time from Musharraf ...
Depends on how violent the next dictator there is going to be, Mal, and whether the country will actually retain enough stability to even have a dictator. Bhutto's party is finished, though. It was built fully around her, and the way she envisioned matters. For these elections (if they're even going to happen in anything resembling fairness), Bhutto's ideas have been murdered along with her. Which was really the whole point. And if you're thinking of revolutions, well... The Taliban-style folks have bigger guns and less restraint than any Pakistani liberal democrat.
