I saw a small, yet rather interesting story in a small newspaper yesterday. Rather, it had an interesting headline. The story itself is what happens when news reporters get too much time on their hands and not enough news to fill the paper. It discussed a person who owned a chicken as a pet saving his little clucking companion from drowning by giving it mouth-to-mouth. Or mouth-to-beak, in this particular case.

The headline was what I found both interesting and amusing in the story, though. It was "Saving Kuritza". It's quite likely that only two people here will get it.

This is enough for me to post it.

Hm. Does kuritza mean chicken? And was that also the name of the pet (like naming your dog "dog", as some people do)?

Er... I still don't get it. Or did I, and I didn't notice?

As well as meaning chicken I think it's also a family name, perhaps there's some subtle other meaning or it sounds similar to something else - either that or it's the worst joke ever.

Well, the first thing is that it sounds funny to anyone who speaks Russian. The second is an allusion to Free Willy. Basically, it's a pun on the name, which translates as Save into more than one language.

Sad, yet it gives news reporters something to do.
