I am sure that most people on the planet are aware that Heath Ledger has died. Slightly mysterious causes but mostly the whole thing is overblown by the media. It is sad yes for sure, its just not the great tragedy the media says it is (except for his family and friends of couse). Here are two noteworthy things I heard on the radio today. 1. On NXFM, in the morning listening to the Steve & Kim breakfast show. Steve and Kim had a call in session criticizing the paparazzi for taking pictures of the bodybag leaving Heath's apparent, the discussion included alot of general statements about the media fascination with death. And then, not 15 minutes later they had a "psychic" talking about the spiritual effects of Heath's death.... What hypocrites. 2. The Kyle and Jackie O show tonight had a interview with Shirley Phelps-Roper, the woman who says she is "glad Heath Ledger is dead", "he is burning in hell" and is behind Westboro Baptist Church Home Page. Now, why did she say this? Because he played a gay man in Brokeback Mountain. She then spewed out her religiously justified venom at a couple of gay speakers before hanging up on Kylie when he started to lay into her after showing surprising restraint during most of the interview. It was strangely fascinating, incredibly funny and disturbing that there are nutters like this in the world. My girlfriend and I sat in my car and listened in disbelief to the whole tirade for the better part of half a hour. You can listen to it here.
Is that the "woman" (using the term as widely as possible here) who keeps ranting on about how everything is evil and everyone will burn in hell for tapping ketchup bottles on the bottom, or having indecent thoughts about... about anything, probably ? If so, then she's only invited on shows so they can shock people and get better ratings and buzz on the net...
Whether or not you consider yourself Christian, mercy and compassion are still virtues to aspire to. Most of the Phelps family were victims of a very abusive upbringing. Extra-familial members of the church are likely enough from a similar background - Given the avowed stances on childrearing that come from the church, it's almost a certainty. Then there's the whole "cult" thing. This isn't quite like scientology or mormonism or any other religion that's been branded as a cult. This is a very clear, insular subculture within the larger fundamentalist hatemongering subsection of the far-right american christian sects. I don't put much stock in brainwashing as mindcontrol, but i don't think we can ignore the impact that complete control over someone's education and upbringing will have on them. Westborough is a blight on the entire human race, to be sure, but i'd urge anyone who feels the need to point out the error of their ways to save themselves the effort. Instead, practice the Christian teachings that they don't seem to have ever heard of. Forgive them, they know not what they do.
The domain godhatesfags.com could have such wonderful upbeat connotations if it was entirely Anglo-centric and we didn't have a clue what Fags meant in American English. I can just see the posters on church noticeboards...
I can, however see the Buddy Christ with a half-smoked ciggie stuck between index and middle finger... I feel sorry for his family though. If it turns out it was an overdose, they will never really know if he meant to do it. And people like that Shirley Phelps-Roper are going to go to hell, because their souls and hearts are so filled with hate and evil. Small minded, petty, no good...grumblegrumblegrumble....
I said the exact same thing to my assistant today; when you see these wide-eyed crazy types condemning people to Hell you just know that if anyone is going to a place called Hell it will be them, if they aren't there already in their own minds.
The people from Westboro Baptist are indeed the people behind godhatesfags. I think that says more about their commitment to the Christian ideals of compassion, tolerance and peace than I ever could. I hope their picketing of Heath Ledger's funeral is not too upsetting for his family at an already difficult time for them.
An Igorina. Apparently she's really hot... From news i heard this morning it's looking more like an accidental death. The rolled up $20 bill found had no drugs on it. All of the prescription medicine was in the bathroom with their lids on... So its hard to see how he sat in bed and chewed sleeping pills. So he won't be going to hell for suicide but there's nothing to be ashamed or evil about playing a sympathetic gay character. Thats like saying because you played an Indian in cowboys and indians as a kid you are going to hell for being a heathen. But I agree with Garner. They know not what they do.
Its unlikely to as it will be in Australia and I don't think they are that dedicated. Shirley Phelps-Roper also said that she would not risk getting into legal action in Australia after what she just said. I don't think she would, but I also don't think her travel visa would get approved either.
