Where is Londonary, is that like in Ireland or some bizzare town in the Nether[-]world[/-]lands.
  7. Katcal I Aten't French !

And who is this Janu, in that case ?
  8. Cynical_Youth New Member

Adele and I will be in London on a family trip some time in mid-January for a couple of days.

Clay and I had been throwing around ideas for a meet-up then. I was going to finalise the dates and plans for the trip first, but then Clay ran out of ideas and saddled us with this monster of a portmanteau Con title.
  9. Maljonic Administrator

Oh, in that case I think we can probably go then.
  10. Katcal I Aten't French !

Well, we'll see if we can make it, I'm not sure, as we'll already be coming in October (fot Octolondonbercon I suppose)
  11. Tephlon Active Member

Hmm. I've been throwing around the idea of going to London for a week somewhere early next year. I might just be able to convince my better half to let it coincide with the JanuLondonary Con.
  12. Saccharissa Stitcher

    I want to come too!
  13. Electric_Man Templar

Aww, London's like a whole hour away from me, it's a bit of a journey...
  14. Maljonic Administrator

I know what you mean, it is a bit of a bind for us too - involving a rigorous 1 hour 45 minute train journey while eating biscuits, surfing the web and drinking coffee and tea. I just hope everyone appreciates the sacrifices some of us have to make to get there.
  15. Cynical_Youth New Member

    Woo!

I didn't know this many people would be interested.
  16. Orrdos God

Fuckers. I have to endure a 4 and half to 6 hour train journey to get to london.

And it takes me 45 mins to get to glasgow from my house to catch that train. Nor do i get to eat "biscuits" or drink "tea".

No, instead I get threatened with a kicking from angry drunk racists.

    You people make me sick!
  17. Katcal I Aten't French !

So you mean you're not coming to Octobercon to taste my wonderful homemade biscuits ?
  18. Orrdos God

    Perhaps!

I don't know. Ella has a holiday plan, which I'm not allowed to deviate from. You'll have to ask her
  19. Katcal I Aten't French !

Hmmm, I'll find a way to convince you... If biscuits and Pterry aren't enough, I will find something else.
  20. Orrdos God

Actually, pratchett himself is a good reason to avoid it.....
  21. Marcia Executive Onion

I went to London yesterday. For an appointment that lasted about an hour, I left my flat at 9:15 and didn't arrive home till 6 PM, and I didn't even get to stop and have lunch.

    Stupid British Rail.

edit: No tea or biscuits for me either.
  22. Bradthewonderllama New Member

    *snifle snifle* *rosins bow*

Serious sniffle about the racist threats though.
  23. Orrdos God

Oddly enough, it was a drunk scottish guy (yes, what ARE the odds?).

He was being racist to the guy sitting next to me, and took exception when I spoke.

Lovely man. Ended up being thrown off the train by the police
  24. Electric_Man Templar

To be fair, your voice is very easy to take exception to.
  25. Rincewind Number One Doorman

    And your face.
  26. mazekin Member

Since Im a month out for Octobercon (going to London at end of Sept.) I'd like to go to JanuLondonary...whatsit...thingimiebob...

PS, if there's anyone around in London on the 27th / 28th during the day and would like to go for coffee, I'm wandering around London bored out of my tree (aside from a brief moment visiting the Teracotta warriors in their new home)....
  27. Cynical_Youth New Member

The dates for this are known. It'll be the weekend of the 19th of January and we're likely to be in London until the 21st.

We'd love to meet up for lunch or something like that. :)
  28. Maljonic Administrator

I think we might be able to make it for that.
  29. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

We can't get to London on the Saturday until about 2-2.30pm, as I work in the mornings, but if you guys would be prepared to have a late lunch, that would be great!
  30. randywine Member

I have a couple of interviews to book in the London area in January - I'll try to make them around that date and come along (if that's okay...).
  31. Cynical_Youth New Member

    Hope so!

Yep, that would be fine. :)

Randywine, we always love to meet new people. Feel free to join us.
  32. Katcal I Aten't French !

Maybe I'll be able to pop in on my way to Ireland :D
  33. Cynical_Youth New Member

My parents have decided to move it up, for some reason. We're now going the weekend of the 5th & 6th.

Is that still good for everyone?

Would a late lunch around 3.00-3.30pm on Saturday be a good idea?
  34. randywine Member

Nah, sorry 'tis too early in January - I don't normally get out of bed until the 15th :D .

I'll come along to another one in the future.

    Cheers,

    R.
  35. Marcia Executive Onion

If anyone wants to do it later on in January, I'm invited to an all-day work seminar in London on Wed. the 24th. I might be able to turn it into a long-weekend-in-London thingy, which would enable me to avoid travelling on the train early in the morning and late in the evening on the same day.
  36. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

We should be good for both of those. What day were you thinking of, Marcia?
  37. randywine Member

    Might make that one Marcia.

I'll keep checking this thread and let you know when I know when I'll be coming south.

    Cheers,

    R.
  38. Katcal I Aten't French !

Actually, I said that jokingly but the flight plans have changed and I will now be spending all day in London on Saturday 5th on my way home from Ireland... however, I will have to be at Gatwick before 3:30pm, so an early lunch would be more my cup of tea... and something near Victoria would be ideal...
  39. Marcia Executive Onion

Would have to be the weekend of the 27th, although I've just got the opportunity to apply for a new role at work, so my schedule is for now unconfirmed depending on the application process.
  40. Cynical_Youth New Member

    Really? That's fantastic! :)

We'll be in London all day, so we'll definitely meet up. I'm not sure if Grace and Clay could make it that early, though.
  41. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

Sorry, I can't make it till at least 1.30, and probably not even that early. I can't get to the station till about 12.00, and the train ride is an hour and a half. We would then have to cross London to get to wherever you guys would be.
  42. Katcal I Aten't French !

Meh, shucks, dudes... Oh well, at least I'll get to see Coppe and Co. and I guess you guys have already seen me once this year, I guess that's quite enough for the average human organism... :bunny:

Coppe, I can make either Victoria or London Bridge stations easily, depending on what suits you best... I'll be around from about 10am to 2pm-ish.
Also, if you two have the time while you're there, I really recommend a visit to the Hindu temple in Neasden, it's about a 10-15 min walk from the station on the northern line, but it's well indicated and well worth it. They have a great vegetarian Indian restaurant there from what I have heard, and everyone was really friendly and warm to us tourists. They also have the greatest incense ever in the gift shop.
  43. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

I want to visit the Mandir at Neasden too, so don't go there without us!
  44. Cynical_Youth New Member

The temple sounds like it's worth a visit! Grace, shall we meet you and Clay at the temple then?

Kat, we should be in the centre of London in that time period too. We don't really know any places in London, but we are having a look at where we want to go. We could see if there's a nice (probably vegan ) place in the centre that we'd like to have lunch at, but we'd also be fine with anything you suggest.
  45. Katcal I Aten't French !

Well, why don't we meet at Victoria Station around 10:30am, I'll have a look for good veggie places to eat around there (or somewhere close) and keep you posted. I'm not sure I'll have internet access from the 2nd to the time I get to London so I'll send you my mobile number, unless you still have it...
  46. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

It's probably better to meet centrally and travel there together, or else our time may become quite limited! We have to come into central London in order to get to Neasden anyway.
  47. colonesque10 New Member

If my car will make it another 300 miles i'll try to be there. ALthough it struggles leaving the garage now. I think it's time to send it to the carpark in the sky and I don't mean the multi-storey.
  48. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

    No Way!

    Edit to add:
Erm... So, even if I want to type something all in caps, the board will convert it automatically? I suppose that's generally a good thing...
  49. redneck New Member

    JUST TRYING OUT GRACE'S THING.

Did Mal do something to keep it from yelling or something?

Edit: Grace, mine allowed me to caps all of mine. Do you have a funky setting on your computer or something?
  50. Katcal I Aten't French !

It Only Works If You Type Your Whole Post In Caps !
  51. Katcal I Aten't French !

Coppe, a Veggie Londonian friend of mine (Geoff Lloyd, smirk smirk) recommended a Sri-lankan place just across from Victoria station, sounds good to me, if you want to have a look at the menu, it's here : sekara_home
  52. colonesque10 New Member

    WAY!
  53. Rincewind Number One Doorman

  54. Cynical_Youth New Member

Kat, I got your PM. We're not sure about that Sri Lankan place. We don't know what they do that's vegan, although it does sound like great food. We did find a couple of vegan places near Tottenham Court Road. We're eyeing Beatroot Cafe right now. It's close to Oxford Circus, and you could get a tube to Victoria from there pretty easily.

    Here's the site.
  55. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

Coppe, will you have a functioning mobile with you that we can contact? If not, I'll PM you regarding a meeting place.
  56. Cynical_Youth New Member

I'm unsure about my mobile, so I'll PM you another phone number as well that I'm sure will work.

It's probably a good idea to send that PM about a meeting place, though. I wouldn't want to miss you due to mobile problems (and we'll be travelling a bit).
  57. Katcal I Aten't French !

Yeah, the thing is, I reallyu ought to be getting a train back to Gatwick around 2pm, so every miunte away from victoria is a minute earlier to have to leave.. I'll think about it and we'll work it out over the phone ok ?
  58. Cynical_Youth New Member

    Yep.

At the end of the day, it's the company that matters anyway.

Also, if you're worried about time, we can be in London very early. It might be nice to plan for a train around 1.30, so you have a bit of a window. I know it makes a huge difference to be able to relax about timing, especially when travelling.

I tried to call you just now, but I got your voicemail. I'll try again during the course of the day, though.
  59. Maljonic Administrator

I wanted to try and get us there for the day but it isn't really possible at the moment. I just wanted to say so because I really wanted to meet Cynical_Youth, and everyone else of course, but especially Cynical_Youth as we haven't met before. I'm sure it will happen one way or another though before too long. :)
  60. Katcal I Aten't French !

Coppe I got your message, but for some stupid reason my phone won't let me call you back, and it is also very low on battery so I'll load it up and stay close to it.. Maybe meeting up for drinks earlier would be a better idea and I'll grab myself a snack on the way back to the airport, then you can eat what and where you fancy and I won't be all stressed out about getting there in time.
