I have just read in the Sci fi board that Terrys book The Wee Free Men is going to be made into movie. for details go to http://www.scifiweekly.com/issue456/news.html
Thanks for that link, pmsurrey. (Although you may want to remove the full stop you've added onto it ) Sam Raimi is directing it, apparently. Can't say that means anything to me. Does anyone know if this guy would be able to do a good job of it?
I took off the dot and corrected the spelling in the title. This news is still on the front page of this site by the way, been there over a week. Still we may as well have a thread to discuss it if we want.
The important thing about Sam Raimi directing, really, is that Bruce Campbell will surely have a cameo.
Your welcome. I wrote the adress just as it was on the e mail. I get the sci fi magazine on my e mail and thats how it came up. I have no idea what you are talking about. This is very new to me so if I make a mistake its because I not only dont know, I dont even suspect.
It's okay, there was just a full stop at the end of the address that made the link not work, I took it off now so it does work and everything is fine.
I am realy exeted about this film i wonder where they are going to film it and wether it is live action or anamated it would be realy good if it was live action mixed with computer grafics (sory for any spelling mistakes)
i have been thinking, if well when the film is filmed will there be a game with it like most of the other recent films that have been reased and if so the intrest in terry pratchett will increse and maybe when a new pratchett book is reled there will be scens like when the new harry potter books are releced. :?
Ohh!! Do you really think so?! That would be awesome!! I think the films, if done right, will generate a lot of new interest in Terry and the DW series. What scares me is it becoming TOO commercialized. I mean, does anyone want to see Granny Weatherwax BurgerKing Toys? It would be nice to have something to share with my non-discworld friends, though. The only way I 'm able share DW with my hubby is thru the Acorn movies. (Since he isnt a big reader of anything other than car mags) So a feature film would be nice to help spread some DW love..
Or bedlinnen... *shudder* I think there's already enough commercialism (?). But hold on, if there is a hype rolling on, just think of what the Clarecraft figurines might be worth in a few years!
True. Too bad it didnt come in time to save Clarecraft.. Maybe they can make a comeback if the movie gets popular enough. Although, they didnt make Feegle Figures, did they? I thought only Paul Kidby was making them. :? Nanny Ogg sheets with Hedgehogs on them might be fun. Suppose they could make them for a king sized bed?
What none of the articles mention, is that Sony have optioned Rami to direct further Discworld movies.
I love Sam Raimi as a director but I must admit, would his style suit the Discworld? ________ Web shows
OK, so who will play the Feegles? Here's my choices. Please, enyone who wants to, put up your choices! Rob Anybody: Billy Connolly William the Gonnagle: Sir Sean Connery Daft Wullie: Robin Williams Hamish the Aviator: Ewan McGregor Big Yan: Liam Neeson Old Kelda: Dame Judi Dench NOT-AS-BIG-AS-MEDIUM-SIZED-JOCK-BUT-BIGGER-THAN-WEE-JOCK-JOCK: David Tennant All other sundry Feegles: Bruce Campbell Yes, I know that Connolly's nickname is "Big Yin" and should therefore be Big Yan, but after being screwed over for parts in both BRAVEHEART and ROB ROY, he deserves to be the big man of the clan. Besides, who doesn't, when they read the books, hear Billy's voice when they read the bits with Rob (or any of the Feegles, except William the Gonnagle, for that matter)?
I only know Sam Raimi through Spiderman and although I enjoyed the films I was very disappointed that none of Peter Parker's throwaway humour made it into the film. This is probably due to scripting rather than directing but his humour is a huge part of what Peter Parker/Spiderman is about and I am just a bit concerned that something will be lost in this attempt to film the Tiffany Aching story. But then I guess that films never match the picture that we have in our heads when we read the book.
Gods forbid, but we could get a blue faced Mel Gibson with the phony McHollywood accent...again.
And as Terry Pratchett said at a reading I was lucky to visit here in Vienna 'After he has done Spider 197 he'll do the Wee Free Men'.
It wasn't Hex doing the digging, a new member called ttl posted something but later deleted it, so I assume Hex was answering whatever it was they said. In fact they also answered Hex but deleted that as well.
Yeah, I had made a couple of ill thought out posts regarding who should appear in a Wee Free Men movie. Being Scottish, I thought that having the same old names dragged out was boring, ie Connolly and Connery. We have such a great selection of actrors and actresses in Scotland, that I thinkit is a shame that whenever a "Scottish" character or voice is required, Connolly and Connery are automatically thought of. I am really looking forward to a Wee Free Men film, although I think an animation based on Paul Kidby's drawing would be better, they seem to encapsulate the characters better than any human can.
you know, ttl, I think we would have liked to see those posts, don't be afraid to stick up for your opinions, even if someone thinks differently, debates can be fun... or they can start flame wars, which are also fun, just not for everyone. but even flamewars never killed no-one. And yes, Grace, I know that ain't not good grammar, I was done it on porpoise.
