A friend of mine got Reaper Man from a book club and told me to check the series out.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

don't know if anyone will remember me or not, i wasn't around the old boards very much, but since you invited me to the new ones i though i'd at least drop by and see what they were like. so here goes:

    1. it's my name plus initials. ok, i'm boring, i admit.

    2. female, 43, married, one child.

    3. new york city

    4. its possible but highly unlikely to ever happen.

    5. been so many years, i forget... think it was a friend in graduate school.

    6. don't really have one.

anyway, i'll probably drop in from time to time, but i doubt i'll ever be a regular. still, nice to see people again.
  35. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

I remember the name. Hi Nicole! :)
  36. Pink_Kelda New Member

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

I like t he Wee Free Men, but didn't want people to think I was male. So I chose Kelda. Added pink because I thought (on the old board) that you couldn't choose a character's name. Now, I just like the way it sounds.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Female

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

24, a small country in Southeast Asia- soon will be studying in Essex, UK.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

It would suck but I would still go to see it.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Picked up Good Omens at a garage sale- have been hooked ever since.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

Stupid internets disconnected right as I was about to post this the first time. Grah and general noises of dissent.

I must say though, this set-up a lot better. Moderators! Games! Topic Review! I love it.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Umm...I used my e-mail address, minus the numbers. So original, I know.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Female. Most definitely female.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I am 18 years old and unfortunately, I am from Ohio, USA.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

I do. I think it's possible if it's done so non-Discworld fans would also enjoy it, having never read the books themselves. I'd pick a stand-alone like "Going Postal" or "Moving Pictures" even though I'd really like so see "Guards! Guards!" or "Men At Arms" done.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

A friend loaned me "Monsterous Regiment" when it came out and I thought it was pretty good. Then she loaned me "Witches Abroad". Better, but I wasn't quite sold. Then she tried "Guards! Guards!". I was hooked and the rest, they say, is history.

I now try to convert as many people I can.

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

I've had a frustrating day thus far (work-study job searching with no success) and it's not looking to get any better, so I'm going to go with a PTerry favorite that I feel like running about screaming at the moment:

"Today Is A Good Day For Someone Else To Die!"

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname? I chose Naiad because I like water, and swimming and all of that good stuff. Naiad means water nymph in case anyone was wondering...

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.) I am of the female persuasion.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into? I fall into the rotten teenager catagory :D and i live in Michigan of the U.S.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? I certainly hope a good discworld movie will come along and present itself in the states.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett? My sister introduced it to me a few years ago...I've been reading it ever since!

Howdy. Hmm... ok questions, here goes...

    (1) I used to go by the username generaltacticus for ages and that got shortened to 'Gen' because it was easier. And then Mighty because I used to have the biggest sig in the world that would eat other sigs alive. So Gen the Mighty - and it stuck 8)

    (2) I am woman hear me roar.

    (3) I am nearly 21 and I live in Leicester, UK - which is in fact the geographical centre of mass for the UK...

    (4) Yay movies! Probably would work but only if done well and if the film actually kept to the plot of the book (you know who you are, Peter....)

    (5) I think I read Feet of Clay in my teens and have loved the series ever since.

    (6) "Oh, wait, I know! You have to construct a weapon. Look around you - can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?"
  44. Toaf New Member

I had never even noticed this thread before.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
It started off as ButteredToast on the other board. Then it became Toast. Then Toaf.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    Female.

    Not really, no.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Anarchy does not require a fishing hat.
  45. Toaf New Member

Oh, and hello Gen. Welcome to the boards. :)
  46. Apeirophobia New Member

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
My pretentious screen name means the fear of infinity. The impetus for choosing such a name came from two books I am currently reading: one about the nature of infinity and the other about the role of madness in society

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
When I woke up this morning I was male. If past experience is anything to go by, I should wake up as a male tomorrow, but only time will tell if that's the case.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
    Late twenties and London.

[b6]4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.) [/b]
Yes I do believe a non-suckworthy discworld movie could be made. Will it ever be made? Possibly not. But there's always hope.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I was about thirteen years old and I was reading stories like The Last Unicorn and The Earthsea books, when I came across what I thought was going to be a typical fantasy novel. That novel was Equal Rites. Since then I've been an addict. :(

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Don't give yourself a pretentious screen name when joining a messageboard. You'll probably end up regretting it.

I'm otherwise known as Neil, or Neil the Hippie Killer ;)

Currently Male, no plans to change just yet..

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

31 (but look 25 ;) ) Catagory without list to choose? Um, Oldish ?
The exciting city of York, North Yorkshire, Oop North, UK

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Discworld, No. Although the play I saw in York's Clifford's tower was good, I can't see it translating well enough for the screen. Maybe if Terry Pratchett wrote the screenplay and maybe directed it too ?
Good Omens, however, I've been waiting a long time for a film.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I found Reaper man in a library, and promptly read the other 10 or so that were the whole collection at the time.

BoB are you named after our very familiar Bob :( or Bomb on Board?

The second one caused the emergency landing of a flight from Sydney to LA after someone found the letters BOB written on a puke bag on the flight... Do you have any idea how hard it is to do an emergency landing when your in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with no big land masses for a very long time?

BTW Bob the use of animated avatars is frowned upon for the narrow banded ones amongst us it proves problematic... although maybe you've got some narrow-band animation going on that won't disturb anyone :)

The anim is only 8k and I have a 5k version if anyone complains :)

I never knew about your bob, our BoB is probably different..
Why is your bob so :( Maybe he will be happy that there is another bob around ?

    The quick story of BoB:
A friend called Kris and I were discussing the world as you do at college, whilst drinking dry the supply of coffee. Someone says something about God and we start on the old "well, God wouldn't let his name be an anagram of Dog if he were real" conversation.. I said "Well, BoB must be the real god, his name is the same Backwards and forwards".. and from this we've been confusing people for years, a lot of people really believe that I believe in BoB ;)
We have extended the joke over the years, like all creative power is palindromic, eg BoB MoM DaD :)
It just makes the weak minded more gullible :D

My best friend told me about it. She brought over Discworld GURPS to my house right after I got out of surgery and had nothing to do. I was curious after thumbing though the book, so I went to the library and checked out as much Discworld as possible (when I fell haplessly in love with the Watch and the witches.)

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?
It's too early in the morning for my creativity to work, sorry. No quotes here.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

i doubt it for ever good film i saw from a good book i saw 10 that sucked
