Coulter called Democratic candidate Edwards a ‘faggot’

now, for those who've never had to examine american political debate without blinders on, it's safe to assume that everyone involved is insane. Ann Coulter is one of those people who's made a career out of being an extremist. She once accused anyone who questioned the war on terror as being a traitor who should be punished accordingly. (ie, hanging!)

She's pro- anything conservative, and her rebuttal of anything 'liberal' consists of insults and hate mongering. her defenders and fans call her beautiful and intelligent. her detractors call her lots of other things, but most of them just shake their heads in pity.

and the sad thing, to me, is that she's far from atypical in the current american political media.

I don't know anything about her, is she kind of old fashioned? There's a few UK Conservative party members that I think are still living in the 1950s, or earlier, who make jokes/comments of a similar ilk and think they're sounding cool, which they might be to some people, without realising just how out of touch they make themselves look, and the rest of their party.

The most influential media figures here are 2 guys, Allan Jones and John Laws.

These guys are so bad that both of them can start arguing a political position and at the end of their 5 minute rant are arguing the opposite to when they started. But what I find depressing is the number of people who take these gooses opinions as gospel and parrot it like its an intelligent argument.

Some people really need to learn to watch what comes out of their mouths.
  5. Garner Great God and Founding Father

she's only old fashioned in the sense that she's spouting right wing bigotry that was offensive even 50 years ago.

her entire career is built on blaming 'liberals' for everything wrong in the world, and arguing her case by insulting 'liberals'.

basicly, a version of rush limbaugh that could get laid.

"'Faggot' isn't offensive to gays; it has nothing to do with gays."

Wel obviously ! What else would you call a load of sticks ?

    Call the what what-now?
  9. Ba Lord of the Pies

Faggot originally meant a bundle of sticks. It was later made a pejorative term for homosexuals in North America and Australia, often shortened to "fag." This causes some confusion among Americans asked for cigarettes by British...

This is about the same statement that a white supremicist said to Oprah:

"Nigger has nothing to do with black people but a term that applies to anyone who acts like a black person."

Needless to say she was still offended.

Thank you for the explanation Ba.

And yes, that would cause some confusion.

While I agree with your sentiment about Ann Coulter I think that lumping Fareed Zakharia, George Stephanopolous, and even George Will (I have a This Week bias) in with her is wrong. And I don't think that they are terribly atypical of current American political media.
