So here we have it, the end of the speed photo competition. And while it was a quick one there are still some lovely pictures. Going to be a short voting in this one so voting closes next tuesday. [/QUOTE]
(Could only fit 4 posts per page) Thanks for everyone for taking part. Also can you all be thinking of next months competition so we can start it as soon as! Getting voting
KK 0 Doors 0 Halfjack 0 Plaid 1 Katcal 0 Mal 0 Ben 0 Rinso 0 There were several photos I liked here. I voted for Plaid's because I love the framing and construction of the image (look at the way the flower sits on the edge of the ripples), I like that the image speaks to the theme - 'Colour' - but is muted and delicate, and I like the feel of long summers and faded glory about it.
KK 0 Doors 0 Halfjack 1 Plaid 1 Katcal 0 Mal 0 Ben 0 Rinso 0 I love the rainbow colours you get on the back of CDs, I have spent many a minute staring at them...
KK 0 Doors 1 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 0 Ben 0 Rinso 0 I like Plaid's also. Great timing to get the ripple, and great framing.
KK 0 Doors 1 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 0 Rinso 0 I have to vote for Mal's. it's a bit unusual which makes it interesting to me.
KK 0 Doors 1 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I vote for bens, cause i like the idea behind it
KK 1 Doors 1 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I'm voting for KKs because I like the red on white, and also it reminds me of a strange sponge-like feeling I used to get in my brain as a child, as if it were made from marshmallows and you could push things into it.
KK 1 Doors 2 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I'm voting for Doors, because I really like the colours in the eye. Eyes are always just "brown" or "blue" or "hazel" or something. But in reality, there are loads of different colours in there. Grey-green-brown-blue-gold-yellow-black... And every single one unique. It's a genuinely good idea.
This is terrible, not only am I awake early on a sunday, so is Ella AND I agree with her on this vote... KK 1 Doors 3 Halfjack 1 Plaid 2 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I think Plaid's picture was the best aesthetically, but Doors' was a better exploration of the theme.
KK 1 Doors 3 Halfjack 1 Plaid 3 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I voted for Plaid's. Just because I liked it. Edit: Fixed code.
I've been debating whether to vote for Doors or Plaid for several centuries now. Plaid's is the better photograph, but Doors' is the better idea. Brain says: inconclusive. Coin says: tails. Plaid wins. KK 1 Doors 3 Halfjack 1 Plaid 4 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0
There were a lot of photos in this competition that I really liked. I almost went for KK's, because I loved the image, and I thought it spoke to the theme, and I really dithered for a long time - in the end, I chose Plaid's over KK's because I thought it was a neater shot (the background in KK's was a little messy by comparison). And I almost went for Halfjack's for the same reason - beautiful colours and responsive to the theme; I decided against it because the structure of the image seemed slightly awkward to me. I really liked Doors's idea, but was put off because I find close-ups of skin to be gross. I loved the idea behind Ben's, but thought other images were more polished, and the winner should be picked on both counts. I thought Mal's was a really interesting idea that worked on a lot of levels, but other images were more interesting. I liked the idea behind Katcal's, and really liked the use of colour, but found the angle of the shot to be uninspiring. So, yeah, I could pretty much have voted for anyone this time, but Plaid just swung it for me, partly because her use of colour was very clear yet understated, which I liked. Edit: I knew I'd missed one! I really like Rinso's too, with its rich and vibrant colours, but I thought, again, that the structure was not so inspiring, with the apple dead centre and filling most of the image. So, loads of great images this time, which made it really hard picking one. The negatives I've mentioned there were not major issues, just the little things that helped me decide. So, well done, guys, the standard is really going up all the time!
I'm going to choose doors, it was a toss up between him and KK, whose pictures were probably the best visually. I liked the scene in KK and the use of red but though doors had a stronger link to the theme. So doors got my vote. KK 1 Doors 4 Halfjack 1 Plaid 4 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 the points are close....
KK 1 Doors 4 Halfjack 1 Plaid 5 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I liked plaid's a lot. Don't ask me why.
KK 1 Doors 5 Halfjack 1 Plaid 5 Katcal 0 Mal 1 Ben 1 Rinso 0 I had massive difficulties this month. Plaids picture was lovely, you have a away of taking the most unsual pictures! I went for Doors' becuase I loved the colours in the eye, it seemed like the the pupil was on fire. I think it could of done with some cropping. My own attempts to take a picture of my own eye ending up coming as a blur pointing not what a hard shot it is! This means we have are first tie breaker! According to the rules Garner gets to pick the winning photo. Unless you two are happy enough to pick a theme amongst yourselfs. Remember we want to start the you comp as soon as possibile so please, please have your themee ready. It can be on anything you want. Some great photos this month guys! I think this might of been the hardest yet!
Hang on a sec... did Grace actually vote? She made a nice long post but no score was added after it. Typical Grace, never communicates clearly.
Ah, so she was trying to hoodwink us into allowing her two votes... shame on me for falling for her evil techniques!
I was just trying to sway people before they voted! I'll get Garner to break the tie when he comes home from work this evening.
I gotta go with Doors's, even though it does include that part of the eye that looks gross where the lids meet near the nose. There's probably a name for it, but 'gross bit of the eye where you can see the muscle stuff' probably does a good enough job. I might have gone for plaid's, had she managed to capture a bit of sunlight off rocks in the bottom of the water. especially if the local rocks have a high mica content, you can get some amazing light and color effects off of that. a tough call, really, but it felt like the subject of plaid's photo was the ripple, with the flower as an afterthought, while the focus of doors' subject was that portion of the iris that just has more and more stuff to look at the longer you study it. a bit like two fly's wings on top of each other with the sun hitting them just right.
I too am going to vote for Door's picture, though I liked Plaid's and KK's a lot. I may offer a legthier explanation later, but I am being called.
That would have broken the tie, if the voting hadn't been closed! Anyway, looks like this one is over and Doors has won. Doors, time to pick a new theme for this month's competition. Rinso's a Time Nazi, so it needs to be promptish.
Isn't it just called a tear duct? and I think thats what makes the photo interesting...it's natural colour.
No, the tear duct is a tiny, tiny hole near the lip of the eye. If you pull your lid down, you'll see it - it looks like a tiny pinprick. I believe you have one at each end of the lid.
Hooray! I won something! Not bad for a first attempt! That was actually the first photo I tried to take of my eye as well, I must have gotten lucky Thanks everyone! Not the people that didn't vote for me though. Bastards. :: shakes fist ::
