I was sad to read today that the creator of Captain Pugwash, John Ryan, has died at the age of 88. I don't know if many of you will even remember the series, on BBC TV, of the comical pirate from the 50' and 60's or even a 70's revival; but it was good fun to watch the simple animations and enjoy the uncomplicated storylines. Remember it well. Yup, its funny still how many people still say variations on the following line: "D'you know in Captain Pugwash that the cabin boy was called...etc etc etc." Why? irate: Aaarrrr. R.
Just one of those urban legends that managed to get its feet under the carpet, I suppose. We've got a VHS of some Pugwash episodes at home, and still watch it sometimes - I still find it great fun, even at 26! Mind you, even as a child I thought it remarkable that the five of them - only one of which was competant - managed to operate a fully-rigged three masted ship...!
