I was sad to read today that the creator of Captain Pugwash, John Ryan, has died at the age of 88. I don't know if many of you will even remember the series, on BBC TV, of the comical pirate from the 50' and 60's or even a 70's revival; but it was good fun to watch the simple animations and enjoy the uncomplicated storylines.

    Ahhh! Roger the Cabin boy!

And all those other misconceptions about the series :(

    Remember it well.

Yup, its funny still how many people still say variations on the following line:

"D'you know in Captain Pugwash that the cabin boy was called...etc etc etc."

    Why?

    Aaarrrr.

Just one of those urban legends that managed to get its feet under the carpet, I suppose.

We've got a VHS of some Pugwash episodes at home, and still watch it sometimes - I still find it great fun, even at 26! Mind you, even as a child I thought it remarkable that the five of them - only one of which was competant - managed to operate a fully-rigged three masted ship...!
