Realistic looking robot fish http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4313266.stm There's a video link on the page, I think they look pretty amazing; wonder how long it will be before rich people have them in their fish ponds?
My great-aunt thinks they're overly tacky, I don't think rich people will have to many of them, why not just buy exotic fish, you can afford to restock in they die.
You mean the way they look is tacky? I think the movement looks pretty amazing though, they could make them look any way they want I guess and they might stop people having to buy exotic fish and using them instead? Or people might want them when there isn't any real fish left. They could also develop them to explore the oceans, incognito.
Those fish are incredible. I had seen the picture, but the video is very cool. I agree that the scales are a bit tacky, but you could get a much more realistic "skin" for it. I'd love to have a small one fo in the bathtub. Maybe a minishark...
Any information involving Badgers is always very important, especially if it's anything to do with their mating signals. By the way the Robot fish do look cool, even if not that realistic. Although as Mal said there use for discovery and research could be very useful indeed.
From the picture it looks a bit strange, damn video isn't working so I can't comment on that. Also, I saw something the other day about Jacque Cousteau's grandson building a Great White Shark skin, which he can actually clamber into and control the movements from inside. From the picture I saw of it, it seemed quite realistic, whether it will fool the Sharks that he wants to swim amongst and study is another matter. But then the skeleton is made of steel a few inches thick. Read All About It!
