I got so much help from you here with finding my inspiration, that I shall ask something that might be even trickier. I seem to recall, in one of the "Science of Discworld" books, a discussion on Forest Elephants being a third Elephant race and a discussion regarding races of men. I have skimmed the three books again and again without finding it. Did I mis-read, perahaps? The discussion must have been in one of the chapters not written by Terry. Had it been by Terry, I am sure I would have remembered more, and read, not just skimmed. Any ideas, hints or suggestions at all?
I don't have my Science of Discworld Books to hand, but I remember they have an index at the back. Try searching in them for 'forest elephants' or maybe just 'elephants'
I don't have my copy at hand, but here's an article from NG about them... http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/12/1217_leeelephant.html I happened to stumble across a documentary about them recently when zapping, and googled them.
Found it; it was in the second one, on page 110-111 of the Ebury edition ("Blind man with Lanterns").
