    Hello My Friends,

The time has come agian when I abuse my friendship and get you guys to do work for me. We're looking for songs of 2006 for the show i'm working on (which is a review of 2006) so, um...what are your favourite songs?

The winner gets an otter than can smell Jews!
  2. Katcal I Aten't French !

Ooooh, otters are cool !! :D

My current favourites are The Fratellis (Chelsea Dagger was the best) and Bedouin soundclash (When the night feels my song - the song that makes you feel like a complete stoner without touching so much as a cigarette !) errr... there are plenty, but still, if it's UK based I'm not sure the same songs came out here and there in the same year...

Edit : Oh and of course there was that Sandi Tom punk rocker one too, that was quite a big 2006 song...
  3. Electric_Man Templar

I will help you Rinso, if you agree to do my job for me. Friday afternoons would be good.

    Right, now that's settled... songs.

    Hmm.

I have a devil of a time remembering whether a song has been released this year or not, I know Knights of Cydonia by Muse was, that song rocks a lot. As do The Fratellis generally, but I don't think they have a particular stand-out song. Generator by The Holloways is also one of my favourites. I've probably forgotten a whole other load too. I blame work.

My absolute favourite song of the year is Lazy Eye by The Silversun Pickups, but unless I've evangelised about them to you, I doubt anyone else will have heard of them. I only heard of them through the internet, I don't believe they've got through to the UK market yet (they're american).

I definately think the best song this year is: Welcome To The Black Parade, by My Chemical Romance.

    It rocks. Hardcore.

Edit to add: Hate Me, by Blue October is a close second.

I really liked Dani California by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers...

Old Crow Medicine Show's "Down Home Girl" gets stuck in my head for at least an hour everyday.

    I sense a theme.
  9. Hobbes New Member

The theme is deathmetal and thrashmetal

Hobbes: I think we got that.. :)

    Inserting a bit of mainstream:

    - Crazy - Gnarles Barkley
    - Dani California - RHCP
    - Pharell Williams feat. Kanye West* - Number One

    * I don't like Kanye "[i:e4efeb6228]I spent a million dollars so my video should win[/i:e4efeb6228]" West. Disgraceful little whiner. I do like the song.

DOn't know if they've reached england (I do know that Josh Pyke is touring soon)...

Private Education and Memories and Dust - Josh Pyke
    Fidelity - Regina Spektor
Explain and Hammer - Sarah Blasko
Black Fingernails, Red Wine - Eskimo Joe

Thats all I can think of now.

    Albums...

Destroy The Robots - The Red Paintings
Yes, Virginia - The Dresden Dolls
    10,000 Days - Tool
    Eyes Open - Snow Patrol
State Of Emergency - The Living End
Wolfmother - Wolfmother (apart from Australia, where it was last year)

    and one song...

    L. Wells - Franz Ferdinand

Though I'm also liking The Butterfly Effect and AFI are camply amusing.

Bit of a slow year, really.

I agree with most of these, especially Tool. That album rocks. I also liked Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance.

I can't say much about the mainstream stuff, because I've mostly been blissfully unaware of it this year.

Song of the year would be "Right in Two" for me. It's off that Tool album.

There are a few releases still to come that I'm looking forward to. Switchfoot should be good and I also want to give the new Incubus and Our Lady Peace a try.

About the only song of 2006 that I noticed was that Sandi Thom one. Let's get back to 1966...

The Chilie's died and went to hell just at the point that was posted :)

Memorable songs of 2006 being ones that drove me crazy by being repeated on the radio so much.
    Crazy Gnarles Berkley
Punk Rocker.... - Sandi Thom ( this drove me especially crazy as the image of a proper 70's punk with a flower in her hair was just...well wrong)
JCB song. Cant remember who it was but was a cracking song that was both a nice feelgood father and son bonding type song and a rather chilling reminder on how bullying affects kids. - add to that it was actually pleasant to listen to and jobs a good un!

Other than that this year was a year for listening to old stuff for me...compilation albums David bowie, Echo and the Bunnymen and Iron Maiden being three "best of" albums I bought this year.
  19. Electric_Man Templar

That was a great song, but was from 2005. I remember it was in the running for Christmas Number 1, can't remember whether it succeeded or not. Actually, I'm presuming you're from the UK, it may have been released later in other countries.

Yep UK here...and yep now that you mention the christmas no1 thing I remember listening to it and I was driving a truck when it came out and I stopped driving for a living last febuary.
