Today the Garners have celebrated their second anniversary. At dinner tonight, we discussed the boards and their history with Grace's mum and her fiancee, and we also discussed Doors' readings at the wedding. It's reminded me of a lot of stuff that we've all gone through over the years as a community, for both the long march vets and those who've only joined us fairly recently. I have to say, I think *I've* certainly grown up an awful lot since I first started posting on the old site. Hell, I think I've grown up a lot since Mal created this haven for us. It's been a good time, over all. So, here's to the Garners, and here's to the community as a whole... going on 5 years at least now, and still going strong!
It certainly is pretty amazing. It's funny but I used to wonder if I'd ever meet any of the people from the Pratchett board, that was nearly five years ago and I always imagined it might happen some time in the distant future with space ships and me as an old man remembering the days of the internet. I'm very pleased that I didn't have to wait that long, that the internet has evolved beyond nerding around in darkened rooms and actually involved meeting people from time to time. My Mum joked once with my friend Dave (he told me later) that I spend so much time on my computer, moaning about being lonely now and again, what did I expect - that someone was just going to jump out of my computer and marry me? Boy, was she ever wrong - that's pretty much exactly what happened. So cheers to happy meetings and new friends.
Well, as many of you know, Plaid and I are getting married in Octember. This may never have come about if it wasn't for Plaid falling in love with me the moment she set eyes upon my stunningly attractive posts. And if Doors hadn't made comments. Happy Second Anniversary, Garner and Grace. If I wasn't afraid of getting a hundred and one kinds of previously unknown disease, I would request a community hug right now.
Happy Second Anniversary from me too. And Mals and Chris' posts made me laugh, for slightly different reasons.
::hugs Garner, narrowly missing getting stabbed:: ::hugs Mal:: ::hugs Hsing:: ::takes an anticeptic bath and hugs Chrisjordan::
Hooray for the Board O'Lurve! Happy anniversary Grace and Clay, hope you had a nice day unspoilt by annoying stuff like ants in the sugar, or power cuts. May there be many more!
Happy anniversary to the Garner's! I hope you had a lovely day and that no-one jumped out of the computer at you like happened to Mal (thats just a disturbing image but it did make me smile).
I am having severe troubles with my imagination, Garner should not be merging into Barry White, nor should he be allowed to sing soul music. Congratulations on the anniversary of laughing at Doors' reading at your wedding!
Congratulations on your anniversary Garner and Grace, i hope there are many more years of happiness together. Also yaay for the board too, i would be miserable and alone now without it. *hugs everyone*
[color=green:37379c2122]congrats and happy anniversary! and thank you for your donations to intelligent and fun conversation on the web! amazing how the internet can, in fact, bring people together. my fiance doesn't even know how to use a computer - i do not exaggerate. he's a chef and claims that he doesn't need such things. seeing how good he is with knives, i don't argue too much. (though i do tease him) [/color:37379c2122] :yawinkle:
heh, it's funny... back before windows 95, you could still find professionals in office jobs who'd insist only a secretary would ever need to know how to use a computer. i first got online in '96, and it was a different world back then. AOL was just really getting started (when compared to the corporate leviathan it's turned into) and 90% of the 'women' on there were men just pretending for some quick 'cybersex'. These days, 8 year old kids have email and log in to AOL's homework help channels, and the majority of 'women' on AOL actually ARE female. oh, and 'cybersex' is now called 'roleplay', appearantly. Not sure when that change happened, but i've amended my list of hobbies from 'role playing' to 'gaming' just to avoid further confusion in the future. on the old site, we used to have people who'd be aghast at the thought that we met up with each other from time to time. it can still be a strange and alien concept, but when you're honest with yourself and with other people about who you are, and when you've known them long enough to trust them to do the same, then hey, it's not such a freaky thing. so long as you meet in a public place. and don't touch or feed the rinso.

Hm.... *thinks* Gasp! *goes and changes "role playing" to "gaming" on her one or two internet lists* Huzzah! Edit. forgotten word
[quote:95a76a1c01="Garner"]oh, and 'cybersex' is now called 'roleplay'[/quote:95a76a1c01] I'm not posting in the roleplay group again! Especially not on your behalf. I feel degraded

[/quote:013a7f4486] *Goes to change hobbies list from 'Cyber Sex' to 'roleplay.'
Happy anniversary. #Hopes no-one will notice how late she is# #Runs and changes a couple of lists to avoid role-playing error#
**goes to create a hobbies list, first item: "regularly getting disembowelled, stabbed, blown up, set on fire and having eyes damned" **
There's a good-natured form of stabbing? Teach me! Teach me! I would greet mine friends and enemies both in this manner!
[quote:7c2d16c676="Garner"]*stabs katcal in a goodnatured way*[/quote:7c2d16c676] Oh my god Garner is being good natured!!!! I'M SCARED.........

[quote:07da93744c="Bradthewonderllama"]Don't be jealous just because happiness is a bitter bitter poison to you.[/quote:07da93744c] Secretly Ba really just wants to be loved. Awwwwww.
He does not! Ba does not wish love. He does not approve of love. Love is weakness, a poison meant for fools and the mad. They can keep their love, for Ba does not need it, nor wish it. He is all the stronger for not feeling it. He laughs contemptuously at the very thought of love! ...so lonely...
*brushes the burning cinders of other board members off Ba and hugs him til hair has all but burnt off* *edit to add* most of us love you Ba, don't feel lonely. *puts poo in Garners slippers cos he doesn't love Ba and has just stabbed everyone that does*

Congrats to you both and us all, I'd like to say. And even more alien than just people meeting up from the boards, we travel to other countires to do so. These boards has brought me much enjoyment and I hope that they continue to do so, for all of us
